Yes, a One Up cage helps a lot, but I’ve seen a Saint on a 40t and a Zee on a 42t both with stock cages, not wit One Ups!
It doesn't really work well with anything over 38t, it just doesn't have enough length of the cage nor eccentric upper jockey wheel position, so you are compromising both shift quality in high gears. Upper jockey wheel is miles away from the cogs and chain tension in said gear is not good at the same time either. It barely gets the job done on hardtail, forget it on anything with some chain growth.
Have you tried it? My Saint shifts perfectly fine over an 11-36 cassette and looks like it can take more problem-free, but I haven’t tried it - was planning to, then decided I should go the other way around and use a smaller ring together with a 9-36 cassette, then due to different standards got a 9-42 cassette and a medium-cage XTR, so the experiment stopped! 🤣
Yes, I have used it, with and without goat link, my frame doesnt have much chain growth but shifting in higher gears was very lazy and chain was either too loose in 11t cog or borderline ripping the hanger off in the 42t, that's without me sitting on the bike. I don't really care, at the moment my enduro setup is 7speed with 11-28 cassette, zee mech with eccentric upper pulley and damped B link pivot. Unconventional, but works for me (well, actually, I have to put in the work lol, but I learned to pedal any steep climb standing up and for that I am not even using the lowest gear).
Annual winter project: Finished. Meet the 'Ghetto-Enduro' Summum. It’s now rocking an 11-36t cassette and—as you can clearly see—a 'technically wireless' 125mm dropper.
I’m still a bit unsure about the chain length, so I'll need to double-check that it doesn't max out in the 36t cog when a heavy rider is sitting comfortably in the saddle. As for the seatpost, I looked at a 175mm Reverb AXS, but at that price point, it’s literally cheaper to just buy a second bike. She’s not pretty, but she’s my weapon of choice for Finale Ligure for this spring.
Been riding the 180mm dual crown on the enduro bike since the late fall now. I don't see myself going back anytime soon. Ran my old SC fork at 170 then 180mm for a while. The 180 dual sets the A2C back down to closer to the 170mm length and rides better then the 180mm sc. I don't notice the weight and its the first time I've been totally satisfied with the suspension performance and feel on the front of the pedal bike. For any enduro bike type application I don't see myself doing anything different. I wish they made lighter, shorter travel versions for use on more trail bike applications myself.
I have been riding my 2026 Rallon with both a podium and a 46mm offset Boxxer C1 and it's surprising how generally similar they are. The Boxxer is still great even though it's a 6ish year old fork at this point. I have the stock 62.5 stroke Float X2 as well as a 75 stroke Super Deluxe C1 coil that I have been switching between. I did a ride a few weeks ago that had around 1200m of climbing with the Boxxer and other than the limited turn radius (rarely an issue) it was a totally acceptable experience. I am looking forward to doing more riding back to back with both setups as seeing where each excels
.
Bike looks sick, and more importantly looks like a good time.
Thanks! I have been loving it so far. Previous bike was a Dreadnought V2 and I find the overall descending experience to be relatively similar between the two other than the obvious high vs low pivot behavior. The Rallon climbs significantly more eagerly though. I couldn't justify having a dedicated DH bike where I live (there is the terrain but not the access) so having the ability to switch back and forth quickly (takes about 30 minutes to make the swap) makes having the DH setup worthwhile for when I travel to more suitable areas.
I've never been so upset to see a mountain bike.... just because I'm saving $ to get it while others are already smashing laps. also last i checked in oct/nov they were on order eta late april/may....??
I ordered this at the beginning of January and it arrived early March. When I was ordering it the delivery dates varied quite a bit depending on size/build/colour.
Would have considered the new Rallon the perfect frame if it was a high-pivot one. Looks, weight, geo, travel numbers - all perfect… except for the suspension design - personal preferences!
That podium fender works really well on that frame! Actually looks good (to me anyways)!
