Highlights package from the UCI:
Apparently they're thinking about sanctioning more disciplines for next year:
I honestly don't know what the issue is. MTB racing goes into hibernation in winter......so no exposure for teams, riders, sponsors....
Currently, MTB doesn't have a winter racing discipline, why not have Snow Bike? Road cycling has Cyclocross as a winter/ training discipline....
There should be a downhill series in the winter at Bike Parks. At the beginning of the month Highland Mountain Bike Park in Northfield New Hampshire here in the US had the annual Winter Woolly. It is a fat bike downhill race on their trails. It is a blast. Fat bikes have to be used, but I am sure there could be changes.
Plenty of mountains in New England have mountain bike parks, so you could have each mountain have a race for the series. It could happen at other parks across the country or even in Europe. I am not sure why this hasn't taken off during the off season.
All the best,
BostonDon
There is also an entire hemisphere where DH and enduro racing can happen when the north turns into winter. Just as skiers go ski glaciers or go to the opposite hemisphere for endless winter, MTB racing can do the same. A lot of the racers already do this to prepare for the World Cup.
Teams, riders, sponsors, and BUDGETs need an offseason. This is when training, recovery, and a bit of a break happens. Going year round is just not possible without riders skipping some major events.
The dual slalom looked like semi-interesting racing. The Super G was embarrassing for the sport IMO.
There's a big difference between racing 6-8 times per year as we are now vs. racing all year. Professional racers should be able to make a winter series work with a short (1-2 month) break in the fall shoulder season and then another short break in the spring shoulder season before the summer series. I would prefer that the "winter series" is in the southern hemisphere to catch their summer as you mention though. Each series should be at least 10 races. Riders are already skipping major events as it is, but I think that's just part of our sport and not an issue in my mind.
I think they've done this before.....

This has been quoted already in this forum... but it's 2025 now... history repeating
Snow bike segment starting at 8min15sec "it's not like we're going to go ride on snow"
priceless

Vinny T pov - drifting corners at 80kph and then taking hands off to go speed tuck at 100kph is nuts.
