The ski racing world has much more analogies with MTB, based on the type of racing, than with road cycling.
DH is the same in both cases, you have a course, you're flying down the mountain. Either on skis or on a bike. Okay, ski racing also has Super G, GS and Slalom, which MTB doesn't have.
Ski racing has skiercross, just as fourcross on bikes.
You have cross country racing both with bikes and with skis.
You have slopestyle competitions and freeride tours.
The most glaring difference is in the enduro world, but there are also ski touring competitions out there.
The audience size is a different thing, but the formats themselves are very similar and witht he correct marketing MTB could reacha similar audience as ski racing. And cycling is a growing sport as well.
Just how is Cycling 'growing' and by what factor? The immediate market is more diverse, construction and applications are more varied. But there's not much else to say the sport is really in a state steady growth. Audi Commercial

What is growing is erratic, inconsistent componentry standards and, MSRP.

And I've seen some sweet bike racked Audis in my time. I'd drive a quatro wagon the the bike mountain if I could afford it.
I'm gonna pull an OCSponger and quote my own post. Audi is awesome, skiing is awesome, MTB is awesome. Shall we be in agreement that Audi is a possible, though unlikely sponsor possibility... And then go on with the general conversation at hand?
Figuered I'd join and give you a bit of juicy info instead of sitting back and looking. Buchanan seems like he's made the switch to enduro. Also seen him follow BMC team and they followed him on Twitter. they have a legit ews team. I say he's Racing EWS...stamp it. Also blinky racing some ews?
I've been thinking that all along. Martin is no fool. So you're saying that Martin Whitely is starting a car company for the sole purpose of sponsoring Aaron Gwin? He'd probably make some pretty bad assed cars too.

Edit: I suppose the clue might lend itself more to Audi sponsorship of the 23 EWS team and not a new DH team.
Whiteley starting an enduro/dh program with a new frame sponsor, audi as a sponsor too?
Enduro would seem more likely for audi to hop on, but with the separate schedules and crossover of racers, why not put a foot in both disciplines?
