If there is one single event that gets us all more excited than anything else, it's got to be Rampage. The world's best big terrain riders will once again gather in the desert outside Virgin, Utah, to battle it out for the biggest crown in freeride. In just over 2 weeks we'll know the name of 2014 champion Andreu Lacondeguy's successor, but until then, there's plenty to get stoked for - starting right now with the course build!
The 2015 edition will take place at the same spot as last year, which is Rampage's third venue. By the looks of these first images (courtesy of Red Bull), the main features from last year will be back, including the ever spectacular Canyon Gap and the GoPro sender. These features are being built as we type these words, as for the rest, we'll have to wait until the riders and their build teams show up to carve out their lines and join the dots. Here are the first glimpses of some of the 2015 features, and remember to check back often as we'll be adding shots whenever we can dig them up.
Go Big or Go Home - it's time for Rampage!
Yeah, that looks big enough:

Robbie Bourdon and his favorite tool, working on the GoPro Sender:

Lead Builder for 2015 Dave Smutok gets stuck in. The woodwork is always a touchy subject at Rampage, but there is no denying that a few of these features add a lot of flow to the whole line, and of course, they always add some drama too...

Water is a precious commodity out here in the desert, but the build crew have it all figured out. Adam Billinghurst and Mike Fucci show us how they make it rain:

The YT Step Up
Built to allow riders to carry more speed to the bottom section of the course if they chose the left-most side for their line, the YT Step Up is a big wood booter with a tall landing:
The YT Step Up ramp is 10 feet tall, the gap measures 50 feet, and the landing is about 15-18 feet tall.
To carry speed into the YT Step Up, course builders Dave Smutok and crew have shaped a solid looking step down - at 30 feet down and 40 feet out, it's no pushover either!
Here's the whole new line viewed from the last landing:
*i couldn't even stand on the lip of the stepdown w/o shitting my pants.
it also sounds like Doerfling has managed to create an unreal dirt-to-dirt drop that looks huge, I'd guess somewhere in the realm of 50 - 60ft. (judging from an instagram photo by one of his builders)

Clearly the mustang is in its natural habitat
Obviously the Mustang of Bernard Kerr take a lot more damage than the video show... ^^ And Wil White destroyed his bike.
Going to Red Bull Bike to check...
Not yet...But Remy is there?!! Wow. I can't wait to see what he comes up with. I picture a line linking smooth gaps to tiny landings all the way down. Maximum scrub, minimum time. Race winner? Is there a category?
