Our Bike Check section now holds over 16600 bikes, all uploaded by YOU, our esteemed members. One of the things we enjoy the most about these bike checks is that they come from all over the world, and they never fail to show us something new or share something we had never heard about before. From rad retro bikes to cool custom projects, below are 11 of the Bike of the Day winners that really caught our eye in 2023. Have a look through them all and let us know which one was YOUR favorite by voting in the poll. Leave a comment to let everybody know why, as well!
Canfield Fatty Fat - the Ultimate Huck Machine
Just look at it! Imagine chucking this thing off a cliff in 2002 - you know these saw some serious airtime back then (and more than one janky-ass landing, too!)
Tunturi Progression 3.0 - World Cup DH Team Bike from 1999
Yep, let's rewind the clock even more, all the way back to 1999. Would you want to race DH on this thing? Probably not, but you have to admire this restoration job and the meticulous attention to detail while rebuilding it.
The bike that changed the game. It was so much better than other DH bikes at the time (this one is from 2003) that teams sponsored by other bike brands actually used this frame to race on. Forget taking a sharpie to your tires, howe about the whole bike? LOL.
Custom Egerie Titanium As-Tit-Ron-a-Metron
The bike that hasn't changed the game (yet). Paul Aston has his own ideas of what bike geometry should look like, and he manages to make it all work pretty well judging by his riding exploits aboard his creations. It won't win any beauty contests but it may be better at getting down certain mountains?
Nicolai Nucleon 16 Supre Drive
Since we're on the topic of pushing boundaries now, the Supre Drive sure looks to achieve just that. It should come as no surprise that Nicolai would be on of the first to put it into a production frame, they will never shy away from trying something if they believe it can provide an advantage. We're definitely intrigued by the idea of tucking away the derailleur like this, and we're curious to see where it might go in the future.
From the very complex Nicolai to this simple and elegant Starling, the contrast is stark. We love the single-pivot steel frame mated to the sweet Swedish suspension and the trick brakes from Germany (trick, geddit). Just looking at it sitting there makes us want to go ride!
An insane amount of work went into polishing the parts all over this build. We love seeing such commitment to making a ride truly your own. Far from just eye candy though, the parts were chosen with purpose and we're sure this thing shreds too.
If you're going to repaint and rebuild your bike, this is what you should be aiming for. Everything just works incredibly well together, and we salute the effort!
More steel-framed, high-pivot, super strange suspension layout goodness from the far reaches of the internet. Definitely does not look like a Session.
We're always amazed when somebody manages to build their own frame. This one is bang on trend with the high-pivot idler layout and it also gets a floating brake mount straight from the hardware store. DIY for the win!
The owner describes it as a heavymetal mullet and that about sums it up. It's definitely a piece of work!
There you have it, what a sick collection of bikes! Now, to the polls!
THIS should be the Vital Bike of the Year post! so many incredible bikes and builds and ideas!
I voted Murmur but the Zoceli is sick too. Steel is a feel.
That Starling is a thing of beauty. Something about these steel all mountain shredders that are calling to me
I had to support local steel and went with the Contra.
With so much history, creativity, and ingenuity on display, I had to vote with my eyes. The polished Propain is a looker.
If I could ride only one, it has to be the Canfield
Between the M1, Canfield, and Tunturi for me. More interested in the era of the M1 and the Canfield but voted for the Tunturi for the attention to detail and condition of the parts used to rebuild.
Canfield on TOP
No wonder
They're all incredible. But because of the paint and the name, Liv Glorious wins.
