Guess you’ve all seen Vital’s story and recent posts from MSA from certain young rippers railing ruts. No doubt the riding is impressive but I absolutely hate the fact these guys don’t have helmets on. Argue about higher skill level all you want but sh*t happens, and then brain injuries happen. These athletes are meant to be role models, and that involves always wearing a helmet, even if you’re only doing stupid stuff. Interested to get a comment from the likes of Kade, Kaos, and Gatien, hear their opinions. What do you guys think?

Jesus wept, they're only messing about on grass.

You don't need to wear a helmet all the time.

Helmets, always... If they get head injury without any helmet on, don't expect to raise funds to help them recover afterwards... You had the choice, you made the wrong one, deal with it now.

When you see how it can go wrong with a full face helmet (brain injuries, knockouts...), putting on an helmet should be a reflex.

I'm always one for helmets at all times. Multiple concussions from mtb crashes with helmets on, multiple broken helmets, and getting car doored riding in the city has reaffirmed my decision time and time again. My close friend was in a coma for 5 days that lead to permanent brain injuries (almost blind but 2 eye surgeries later he has decent vision, and has permanently lost his sense of smell not to mention personality changes) after smashing his head skateboarding without a helmet.

Grass ruts and young guns schralping looks like a ton of fun, and they absolutely slay it. Helmets are a personal choice but when you are pro and being broadcast to younger groms who idolize you, I think it is more than just a personal choice. MTB is probably the best sport out there for helmet use. I still can't believe some of the BMX edits that drop with these guys going massive with no helmets. And the fact that the Vans park series doesn't require helmets for the skaters absolutely boosting around these massive hits is beyond me. Brain injuries are more frequent than broadcast, maybe not at the pro level but definitely within action sports. They are life changing and permanent, and helmets are pretty low profile/high coverage these days. Interesting to note that on the Vital insta stories the seasoned Redbull athletes Rach and Brook are wearing theirs. #1 redbull helmets are status but wonder if it is within their contracts to wear them all the time while on the bikes.

After watching a *very* well known (pro level) rider concuss the shit out of himself this weekend warming up in a little circle before a stage at a regional enduro race, I'll agree. Throw a damn helmet on. This particular rider's concussion may still have happened with one on (he took his off to warm up), but after how hard I saw him hit on something so innocuous, I'm going to side with the poster on this one!

i agree with using the helmets. I would love to see publications and even teams take the initiative to set the example, expecially in this role. i don't agree with helmet laws, if you want to commit acts of darwinism, you should have the right to do so, but i don't like to see it thrown out there.

It's just like skate and bmx street at xgames. Xgames allows em to ride helmetless, it's pretty asinine.

Always, always, always wear a helmet. I don't let my grom ride his bike, scooter, skateboard or anything else without his helmet and I always lead by example myself, too. I even slap a helmet on when I'm tooling around in the front yard after adjusting the shifter.

It's simply too easy to have a tiny accident that throws you right onto your head. Little mistakes can be really costly and I for one am not paying with my brain.

Always, always, always, always wear a helmet. Always. Alllllllways.

When I read ”Helmet Police” I was hoping this is a thread about all those shitty looking full face helmets out there, but I guess I was wrong. That must be The Helmet FASHION Police. Smile

Otherwise, I feel naked on the mountain, but when I ride street I most often have a cap on. Leave the kids alone, for chrissakes! Patting people on their backs for riding ”awesome” when they are actually riding like shit is far more dangerous than a couple of young pros messing around with no helmets on.

I hereby hope that all skateboarders and BMXers will be put into jail for daring to ride 20+ stairsets with no protection by their own CHOICE. Because life is about choices, isn't it? People should let other people alone with what choices they make. If they think those choices are wrong, maybe they should try 1. listening 2. understanding 3. convincing said people of something better. And if you blame some other people for the choices - let's say - you children make, maybe the problem is somewhere else...

Helmets are important. But being a douche about wearing them isn't.

Have a good one!

Speak to anyone with an acquired brain injury. Then let's talk about helmets.

My father had one, went through two surgeries, it changed his life to the worse; I know very good what the dangers are. I also know very good how it looks like when people complain about problems that are fabricated and act like their are entitled to force-feed other people their worried opinions. You seem to have missed the part where I say I almost never ride without one, but then again I guess you missed my point altogether.

Just for your information, I am a big local advocate of wearing helmets, but I try to be friendly and efficient when I talk to people about this. We can speak helmets whenever you want.

Have a nice day!

Only time I don't wear a helmet is biking on bike paths. I used to not always wear one when I ride on the road but then a car hit me and I rung my bell way too hard.

Every time I am riding with full or even half of my kit on, I wear a helmet. If I have my clips shoes on, helmet. It just makes sense. I believe that if you have a helmet sponsor I.E. Red bull, Monster, or any other company that puts its logos on your head, believes that you will wear it at all times. Let alone it might be a contract breach if they are caught riding without the prime real-estate covered.
