I have this colourway in S3 - Medium as a DH build. Longer stroke shock at 205x65mm and Fox 40s make for a sweet ride. Found as with the reviewer that I have increased rear shock pressure slightly and added another token to sort out the balance between "plush" for chatter and not blowing through travel on bigger hits. While it is a little longer than my last series Chilcotin I think it definitely suits my target use of a DH rig.

I own a Chilcotin, which is Knolly’s version of an enduro bike. Little smaller and less aggressive than the Warden all around. The reaches have grown on these models as well which is why they’ve moved to a S2, S3, etc sizing system. As someone who normally rides Large sizes, I went with an S3 which some might call a “Medium” but has the geo of a traditional “Large”. I think you would have been much happier with the 482 reach and the 1277 wheelbase. My bike, while it’s not as aggressive as the Warden is still very much as...

Agreed! I went with the S4 as my height falls in the middle of the recommended sizing, and I wanted to keep the review as clean as possible. If I were to add one to my collection, it would be an S3 I like the playfulness of the smaller frames as well. The stability at high speed on the S4 was pretty incredible. Happy you like the review!

given the relatively low stack height on these bikes, I wonder if the long reach of the large would feel a bit less extreme with a big ol stack of headset spacers. Noel from Knolly argued something to this effect in the PB comments in regards to the long reaches in their lineup. as a 6'2 long-torso/short-leg dude I'd be stoked if 35mm of spacers and a 35-40mm rise bar made this bike feel more like 490 reach/640 stack, but part of me thinks it'd still be a boat.

Yes, that could have helped, but it would have been better if I was a more aggressive rider. I tend to have a more playful style. It was fun riding a bike that differed from my personal preferences.

Ano Purple, 62.5 HTA, 533mm reach...most trails aren't ready for this bike.

I ran it softer. Fox forks feel harsh to me when set up at the recommended PSI so I always run them on the softer side. No real reason, just like how it feels.

Quiver killer. We hear this phrase constantly, but unfortunately, no such bike truly exists. That 'perfect' bike will always be subject to the constraints of where and how it's ridden. But, a few...

Glad you liked the bike! I was the lucky mekanik to build that very bike earlier this summer while working at Commencal! Glad my stack height and general setup were pretty close to yours! Wish I had gotten to take it out for a ride before boxing it up, that was the first production large frame we received so I couldn't really get a feel for the bike before heading back to school.
