Varaxis Added a comment about press release Bright Racing Shocks Releases New SKUNK Fork

12/16/2022 4:19pm
Didn't RockShox revise their Debonair since there were complaints from customers that their fork was sitting deeper in travel, without any rider on the bike? Doesn't Vorsprung state that their air spring mods cause the fork to sit deeper in travel at rest, but that this is a small price to pay for the extra performance? Weren't there some frames that offered more negative travel, that looked unfamiliar due to having two dampers? I believe there was some remark that sand dune buggies use a similar setup. e.g. Foes FFR I guess seeing this kind of stuff before has desensitized...

I wear these knee shin pads and really like them. Kind of feel naked now when I ride without them. My shins are looking better too.

Varaxis Added a comment about press release Glide Outdoors Introduces the ROAM eMTB

I'm with ya. I ride size med, and don't really see much choice out there. Marin Alpine Trail E2 or Polygon Mt Bromo are the only ones without CS that are too long for the FC.

I pick appropriately sized chainstays for the front center personally.

I've had several ebikes... none have had chainstays any longer then 445. With a mullet setup, there is no real reason you can't get chainstays down shorter, other then that fact that you don't really need them that short. I digress... having a 465mm chainstay on a bike with a front center under 800mm is bonkers. This is just a catalog carbon ebike that's been adapted from a bafang m500 mount to work with the ananda m230.

"My Ananda-conda don't want none unless you've got butt hon." This bike needs to do some side bends and sit-ups and lose some chainstay length, seat tube length. Will work great for the mail-order boomers tho.

Varaxis Added a reply to Lightweight eMTBs = heavier MTBs?

I'd like the question to be: why spend $1500+ for a carbon build to save 3 lbs to go faster for the same effort, when you can spend $1500 for an emtb motor and battery to go faster for the same effort? The Top Fuel overlapped the old Fuel EX a lot. New Fuel EX would've overlapped the Remedy a...

Varaxis Added a comment about feature Tested: Maxxis' Revised EXO+ Tire Casing

4/15/2022 7:21am
I ride a wild 19psi front with 30psi rear on SoCal stuff, since my tires just weren't surviving with less in the back. I run a heavy-duty aggressive tire on both ends too. With 30 psi, I ditched the rear insert, leaving it only up front, which is there to reduce the buzz that gets me to tense up and cause arm pump. The insert in the rear wasn't protecting the rim/tire so well anyway, and was more about ride quality.

Was iceman considered middle-of-the-bellcurve, or did you really want someone more on the extreme fringe?

Varaxis Added a reply to Tire casings and poor line choice

3/5/2022 2:47pm
Yep, it's the 120 tpi fabric Maxxis uses in EXO and DD. It's a supple, but not so durable casing. They just announced that EXO+ will use 60 tpi fabric. I switched to Schwalbe SG tires, since I couldn't sustain the tire replacement costs, and the casing felt like a stiff combat boot compared to a supple Maxxis trail running...

I went from getting flats or killing rims once a month to no flats and the same wheels for almost three years. Downhill tires and Cushcore are worth the weight to me. I run a Cushcore XC in my front tire and I run the big guy in the back. Priceless. I got used to the increased weight pretty quickly, and I love being able to run over whatever I like without worrying about flats. I've stopped even bringing air or tire levers on some of my smoother local rides. I agree with a lot of the commentary about the...
