The Niki Lauda comparison immediately came to my mind as well - with an amazing arse dyno, it's easier to stay at the top of a really competitive game that heavily involves equipment development.

We've been refining this whole concept of a two-wheeled vehicle powered by pedals for some time now... Innovation/refinement are the same thing, depending on perception of the scope.

I have a feeling all those conspiracy theorists will blend into the crickets as these shocks start appearing in the wild. For right now, there's no real way to evaluate the shock independently of the frames built around them (admittedly will be confounded anyway), but not being able to get one without a frameset means there's no real way of comparing that shock heads-up against something else... and considering how many great frames are already out there which can be ran with legacy sized Float-X2 and Vivid-Air setups, but Metric sized anything currently require purchasing the complete frameset, my issue...

Carbon has to be up there for most overrated thing in mountain biking surely. Some of the bike of day builds make me wonder if they ever actually get ridden....

Yeah, no doubt that'll be a near future item, but the OEM priority on those because of the revised I2I figures means that it's not really an available item... and aftermarket will probably be filled with OEM take-offs sooner rather than later.

Only complaint: the 2016 product of the year is a product not actually available in 2016 (except as part of a frame set)... I'm excited for the trunnion Super Deluxe as a long shock possibility, but right now the only reason I'm not running it is: you guessed it - not available.

Cheers for the feedback, Daniel! We aim to do more of this. Concerning those comments, know that the content of Vital's "Tested" features is never paid for. We take testing very seriously and the separation of church and state is strong here. We also know that not every review can end up with a 5-star rating, otherwise what's the point of reading our work?

I agree on the color matching, but if Micro-XD is what I think it is (microtextured small media peened surface with a semi-lubricious DLC surface treatment) then it's basically unbeatable for sticktion and durability for that application, because that arrangement is baller. I'm pretty sure it retains the dual-valving options, the change is that the transition to higher oil volume flow can run a bit faster, meaning they can tune in a more lively LSC/MSC setup that makes the bike poppy without giving up traction for climbing/braking.cornering.

I really like Ghost's entire AMR line - in a product line engineering sense it's a master stroke of common platform design (and has allowed them to seamlessly incorporate the newer metric sized shocks, as well as fine tune geometry by application). The SL-AMR-X 29er looks like an absolute hit, especially in Fox36 Elite/CCDB Coil guise. Leverage curve suits a coil shock brilliantly, it's a top end fork - I just wish they would really leverage the common AMR platform and do a 'choose frame color' from the entire line of colors (the colors on the LC10 and LC6 are...

To a degree, online ordering can alleviate a lot of that (let it mirror what Trek has been doing, where they basically drop ship a bike from warehouse, then rely on the local store to support it) - which would be arguably better in some cases. They would then NEED the demo tour, however the combination of those two things would be seriously awesome. Keep a couple of the high end ones around in the shop as pure eye candy, and REI wins as does Ghost.

Like Jeff is saying - there is enough money to be made off of fixed investments that the 'legacy' stuff will keep being made for as long as they can sell it above costs. In the case of 26" stuff, that's going to be a while because good slopestyle and Youth bikes aren't going away - some of the newer tread patterns won't make it as it'll take too long to hit the break-even, but as long as MinionDHF's, Deore type hubs, and some rim options stick around then that bike will be supportable for the next decade and still...

It was mentioned that the newer bikes were going to be all 12x148 Boost spaced out back - is this going to apply to the EPO in XL, or will that be the last of the 142mm spaced frames? How much of the plastic-fantastic bikes are set in stone [err, molds] design-wise? I'm guessing...

Completely and totally... but perhaps this is a bit of insight as to why a lot of the Santa Cruz elite riders aren't on Nomads for even full chunk gravity racing, because the custom setups work a bit better on the smaller bikes
