4/27/2024 11:38am I've got a floating oleo strut fork in the works! Prototype using a donor manitou mattoc with the single strut, is nearly ready for first assembly n proving the theory's work. Theory is a oleo position sensitive damper with floating negative chamber. Position sensitivity comes from the bleed pin diameter varying the orifice size based on the fork stroke. This...

12/22/2023 2:34pm lol, Vital gets more and more Pinkbike-ish. When presenting facts (like in the tire weight discussion) or prior art (here), you get downvoted.

12/22/2023 2:23pm No no. It was just that we had discussed it already and it was just people claiming one set of brakes was the same/different as another over pictures. It seemed argumentative by some parties than a genuine discussion. Thats all.

12/22/2023 2:23pm Yeah you can request that mate. They look decent, the adjustable leverage is cool. I'd love to try them.

scar4me Added a reply to Is brake modulation just pistons engaging in series rather than simultaneously?
12/20/2023 7:19am Yeah, lubing the piston seals helps minimise the uneven friction during initial movement and the retraction when the system de-pressurises after the lever is released. So can help with pad rubbing issues etc. Auto-pad wear adjustment moves the resting point of the pistons slightly as the grip point becomes narrower. So sometimes in multi-piston systems this needs a helping hand...
scar4me Added a reply to Is brake modulation just pistons engaging in series rather than simultaneously?
12/20/2023 6:22am Simply no. Brake systems with small master cylinders and large slaves (even multiple slaves) apply equal pressure to all pistons in the system. The piston seals each have a design "throw", where they naturally flex and don't slide. Smaller pistons, and big pistons should both have the same seal "throw", so as the pressure from the lever goes into the...
Walrus_Rider Liked a reply to forum topic Why Do High-end Integrated MTB Bar/Stem Combos Exist?
12/17/2023 10:24am The biggest market for these integrated stem/bars is for those casual, middle aged mountainbikers with money (no offense, this is just real talk) who walk into a shop and see the Scott sitting there with integrated everything. The bike's aesthetic looks so clean. They lift it up and marvel at the light weight. Front and rear suspension lockout!? Many ooohs and aaaahhs. They either aren't experienced or don't ride enough to really recognize if the integrated bar and stem fit them. It looks cool and it's light weight. That's all that matters because the bike sells.

scar4me Added a reply to Why Do High-end Integrated MTB Bar/Stem Combos Exist?
12/17/2023 12:29am I've been running an integrated bar/stem combo for about 2years now on my hardtail. It's a non-brand import, that I went to guinea pig for the hell of it. (Somebody's gotta ) I made the call that actually my bar/stem roll rise and sweep hasn't changed for 10yrs, so why not. I like the hammerhead look, and weight that is...
