I saw the fork on the other tube, yeah, I was aiming at the chain lube. As for oil in the air spring, like I said, RS doesn't mention adding oil, except if you use the RS dynamic seal grease (PTFE). In that case you SHOULD add oil. But not if you use Sram Butter (at least it's not needed)...

Oh boy... For a fork that notoriously contains very little oil, to risk dropping it out even more... I think it's much easier and safer to stick to Darren's method of turning the bike upside down. And with grooves cut into the bushings, the oil will seep down to the foam rings just as much as if you take the...

I was thinking about a piston that would squeeze oil into a tube under deep compression events and squirt it through said tube up to the foam rings. But yeah, a casting incorporating that would be a PITA. Maybe the new proto Trickstuff/Intend fork could be made using that considering it looks glued together Smile

If you change leverage ratios for the same shock stroke, you are changing suspension travel at the rear axle. What you're changing here is the rising rate of the leverage ratio, the overall (average) leverage ratio stays mostly the same. One logic would be to have a more progressive curve be the 'business' to prevent bottom out, but to give supple suspension. To, you know, race. Business. With a more linear curve, you have more support in the middle of the travel and have a more poppy bike. You know, party. As for stripping threads, that's not the point here...

Lyrik and Boxxer are different now, but in the 26" days they were indeed similar. I was thinking about making a 27,5" Lyrik at the time by putting a 27,5" Boxxer lower on a Lyrik. Luckily I had none of the parts, the money or a bike to fit it to :D It would also make it one of the...

I know, I saw that, I meant it's a proto in the sense that it does not represent the final as in the final product won't have that many holes or won't have them spaced so closely together. BTW, why would a less progressive suspension be 'business' and a more progressive 'party'? Wouldn't more support in the beginning of the stroke be more party? And a more progressive , comfier, but still supporting in the end be more business?

This is where you are wrong. It's true tall people will be seated further back towards the rear axle for a given seat tube angle (if we're talking about the actual angles, but i'm getting to that as well). And it is true, like you said, that only 90° seat tube angle would give equal footing for all people. Now, what my issue is is the virtual vs. the actual seat tube angle. You can see the seat post and the seat tube the seatpost is inserted into is relatively slack. And that it's offset from the BB. That gives...

I hope it's not the stick a zip tie under the seal and apply a lubricant under it trick. That just brings more dirt into the oil seal and bushing, scratching the uppers. And the choice of lubricant can be an issue as well. Darren had a few things to say in the linked podcast about this as well if...

Except that today clearance in forks is something normal while I sold off a 7 year bike with the original Pike with two services done on it with no clearance in the bushings. And it's not just rock shox that has bushing clearance, it's also Fox based on what I'm told. Plus that clearance is a factor in giving you...

FWIW, I think Lyrik and Pike use 7000 series upper tubes, while Yari uses 6000 series uppers. And I think it's the same for FOX (7000) vs. Marzocchi (6000). You are right though, Young's modulus (modulus of elasticity) doesn't change here, so you won't gain any stiffness. You gain strength, but that only makes it possible to make thinner tubes...

Don't forget to add that MTB suspension also needs to handle ridiculously low damping frequencies as well (~2 to 3 Hz - pedaling), like I mentioned before.

Seriously? After everything I've written, trying to make it clear it's more than counting to 2 mm further along a ruler, you answer with a post like that? If I wasn't clear, unless there was some clear benefit (even if it is just marketing), no sane person would go through the task of changing all the things i described above...

Indeed he said that. And he said that current suspension products are insanely good and that MTB suspension products are, compared to other suspension products, hard to design. You have a wide range of requirements coming from the system weight side (large differences between lightest and heaviest riders, who can run the exact same product, with rental bikes even 5...

You're trying to be funny and being facetious, but it's actually true. The 'only' 2 mm means a different upper grinding machine/tooling, a separate kashima coating procedure (different parts and the prevention of them mixing with the 32, 34, 36 and 40 mm parts) and required a new tool to mould lowers and requires different seals. The bushings aren't much...
