Bianchi's accident demonstrates how wrong Red Bull have it. When Bianchi crashed, nobody in F1 tried to pretend that everything was OK and the race did not carry on as though nothing had happened. There was no attempt at a media black out and F1 doesn't make journalists sign NDAs so they won't show the world what happened. . Even more to the point, when the extent of Bianchi's injuries became clear, the treatment he would get and that it was all paid for was never even questioned. The FIA, Bernie Ecclestone, Ferrari (Bianchi's primary sponsor) and chums, for all...

I think the point we were making is that no matter how much money is in the sport you can still wind up dead. Offering a bigger prize purse to the riders at Rampage so that they can afford their medical bills is not a long term solution. Look at what happened in F1 after Ayrton and Ratzenbergers deaths. There was a massive focus on improving safety for drivers and track design/layout. Since then there were no more fatalities until the untimely death of Jules (which really was an accident and could not have been foreseen). F1 still continued to...

I can't see how the risk of death or serious life changing injury will ever outweigh the reward. Look at Jules Bianchi. An F1 driver, wealthy and supported in a sport where driver safety is number one priority and he still paid the ultimate price. I would say we are lucky that there haven't been more serious injuries (or worse) at Rampage over the years. Sometimes it takes a tragic case such as Paul B to really change a sport and improve safety standards for everybody. Let's hope that RedBull really take a hard look at this and lead the...

I really don't think these decisions are anything to do with revenue. The amount the UCI makes out of a world cup downhill race is isn't much compared to other disciplines. The resort hosting the event has to meet the majority of costs (including uplifts for riders, staff, paddock space, signage, advertising and marketing, safety, parking, marshals, tv viewing platforms...
This sounds like a sensible move to me. It seems that standards are increasing, meaning more riders are achieving the required points at their home races to race at world cup level, however the gap between the top 30 and the slowest rider is still large. When you consider that only the top 80 qualify, and around 20 of those...

I hate to be one of the naysayers, but how can this be relevant for mountain bikes where you have ever changing conditions and grip levels? Even with the pressure turned down, you would still be able to lock the front wheel on loose gravel or wet clay. I hope they have a rock solid disclaimer because the people who buy this stuff are the people dumb enough to take legal action if they go over the handle bars when using this product.

Good point! And not everybody runs their bars and grips at the same angle. I'm talking about grips that have a palm pad, flanges, ribs for finger grip, or dual compound grips. For example if you roll your bars forwards it's not possible to roll the grips backwards to compensate.

Sam always ran a similar set up in his Iron Horse days, but the shifter cable ran along the chainstay on the Sunday. Maybe it's just extra protection against snagging on rocks and chainslap.

Got to 2 minutes then switched off after the guy crashed on the step down. The risk to reward ratio for this event was ridiculous, and it didn't even look impressive to watch. It was fortunate that someone didn't leave with permanent injuries, or worse. McGarry was lucky. Red Bull have brought so many positive things to our sport but this wasn't one of them. The less said about this event the better.
