I very seldom comment on forums or respond to reviews but in this case I'm compelled. Five Ten has NOT addressed the longevity issue. My freerider pros lasted ten months of riding twice a week on a trail bike before the soles were completely torn apart with big holes from the pedal pins. The uppers have lasted well. Replaced then with 2FO 2.0's and the front of the sole peeled off after ONE ride as they aren't stitched either. Took them back for a refund. Three months on the Shimano GR7's and they're holding up quite well. I'm not hard...

I came here just to complain about the design of all of these shoes. None of them look outdoor'sy enough or at all, let alone like something meant for serious mountainbike riding. Vaude is close, but boring. Ironically the best performing shoe (Freerider Pro) is the worst, it looks like something I wore as a kid in the 80s. That's why I ended up with the Adidas Trailcross SL but my poor technique, especially on jumps, makes me longing for more grip than they provide which is why I still switch between flats and clips. I really appreciate this review. I have worn out my Freerider Pro's (midsole disintegration) and this is the first time I'm considering non-5.10 shoes since I tried the 2FO flat (original) which had as much grip as tap shoes. I looked at the new Adidas site, only to find that they took away the good color for the Freerider Pros. The colors of the Impact Pro are pretty weak too. The Freerider Contact is still disappointingly disposable (delam). Some of the other models come now in only black. And some mountain bike shoes with white midsoles? I'm not sure what...

This discussion is kinda worthless without knowing what kind of trails people are riding! Smile Here on the dry, dusty rocks of Colorado, I have been enjoying a Piranha 2.3" UST rear and Big Betty 2.4" SS front, running both on tubeless rims with sealant. I am hesitant to run anything lighter in the rear since thinner sidewalls require higher...
