I happen to be friends with one of the first Red Bull sponsored mountain bike athletes, at that time, you were considered a Red Bull Athlete for life. My friend still gets Redbull helmets to this day and she hasn't raced professionally for almost 20 years. I have no idea if she is still compensated or just considered a sponsored athlete. I think once there began to be a lot more RB athletes they went to the more traditional "contracts" with specified lengths and could be renewed.
