It's awesome to see good kids doing well on relatively affordable bike platforms. Barrecloth and Soderstrom? rode Status' in the Rampage. They can also be built into a sick mini-DH/All Mountain rippers with the right parts. There are even provisions for an E-type front derailleur! Check out Barrecloth's rig with air shock: http://www.vitalmtb.com/photos/member/Mountain-Bike-Photos-You-Should-S…

What I wonder is. This Helmet looks seriously poor quality, but it is the exact same helmet as the "Metis" from the reputable company IXS. Does that mean that the IXS Metis is exactly as terrible as this from Fly Racing? Should people wearing one (ixs metis) be worried ?

My son, weighs in at 20kgs and is aged 8. He had a full face impact (nothing unusual here as he has had many whilst BMX racing). The impact resulted in the Chin Bar cracking and folding back into his face, causing his jaw to fracture and suffer concussion. The Chin Bar is not certified for Downhill usage (make a note of that)! In fact the helmet is only certified at the most basic level for head protection. Not worth the risk. http://www.flickr.com/photos/55910689@N02/8960656971/lightbox/

I think it's a good start, but needs some work. As previously mentioned, the strap over the lower forefoot is going to be really uncomfortable when it is pulled tight. Does anyone remeber the Adidas Hematomas? THOSE things were the gold-standard in clipless DH shoes. They had 3 well-placed velcro straps over the instep, ankle bone pads there were like an internal cuff, AND an armored toe box. A very hard, tough plastic/composite capped the toe area like the steel toes of a pair of Doc Martens. I think this last bit was a great idea becuase occasionally toes would...

It would be awesome if you could write a follow up review in some months, say October, November when you have more serious time on it!

Reviewed by Fred Robinson // Photos by Ian Collins // Studio shots by Fanatik Bike Co. After riding squishy bikes made out of aluminum down bumpy hills for several years, I had no real desire to try any other frame material for my downhill bike. I was happy with aluminum - no real complaints from me. That was until the day I saw a photo of a matte-black plastic Batmobile on two wheels and instantly thought to myself "I need that in my life, right now." There was nothing wrong with my current bike, it had modern geometry, bad ass...

So what is the difference with the IXS Mettis? particularly in the R&D department?

Man, I like all the DW bikes I have ridden, but this guy seems to be going after everybody. And after each suspension design has been around for years too. Maybe he should have sued them earlier? I'm also curious how the trek case is going as I have never seen any updates on it.
