Added bike check ButtersNZ's 2017 Pivot Firebird XTR

My experience has been (2017/8 Celium line) pilling on the jersey from unknown sources, but it is light and breathes very well. The shorts have ripped through along the seam in the back within a few rides - both replaced under warranty. I wouldn't buy again.

6/14/2018 4:15pm Shimano: we are finally joining the wide range game with a 500 dollar alloy crankset and a proprietary free-hub body that will only be licensed to DT Swiss. Sram: Here's an eagle drivetrain group for 375 bucks that will work on just about any wheel.

5/29/2018 7:46pm Looks to be a bit easier to see trends of rider performance. I like how places for timed runs, qualis and races all sit together to give an easy appreciation of rider form. It's the first time I've noticed how disadvantaged Brooke MacDonald appeared by his move to GT, and can see the gradual improvements as he brought his results...
Krispy Liked a comment about Feature We Ride Coil and Air Shocks Back-to-Back
10/17/2017 4:16pm Great article, Vital rocks. While I agree with what is stated in this article I've had different outcomes when testing coil vs air. First off, what hasn't been mentioned here or in the Rockshox story is how the negative chamber works on an air shock. The negative air makes the shock softer at sag and can make the shock feel less poppy. The coil spring on the other hand is firmer at sag which gives the support so many people feel. I've found this to make the bike feel more poppy and faster. Due to larger negative Evol and Debonair...

8/28/2017 2:01pm Having ridden a large framed Firebird since buying this, it's clear to me that XL was the right choice. They're such good bikes. You'll be stoked!

8/28/2017 1:36am Cheers! Yeah mate, I'm 6 foot 2". 188cm. With the shorter stem it's a perfect fit. I've put up another pic so you can see the sizing with me on it.

When I first got into mountain biking in the early 2000s there was always one bike company I had a hyper crush on, it was Santa Cruz. Starting with the Super 8 all the way through to the current lineup, there was always something about Santa Cruz bikes that caught my eye. About 2 years ago I stumbled across a killer deal on the Nomad 3 frame that I couldn’t pass up. After riding it for about a year and a half, it is the only bike I wish I would have never let go. With that said, here are...

bturman Liked a product review Review - 2017 Pivot Firebird Carbon from Vital MTB Test Sessions
4/12/2017 4:36pm
With a complete overhaul for 2017, the Pivot Firebird gets some key geometry updates inspired by its downhill counter part, the Phoenix, complete with a brand new dw-link suspension layout. Featuring 170mm of front and rear wheel travel, the Firebird comes prepared to handle the gnarliest trails. We were stoked to get this bad boy out on some of Tucson, Arizona’s rocky, loose trails during Vital MTB Test Sessions to find out if these changes result in big gains. Highlights Carbon frame 27.5-inch wheels 170mm (6.7-inches) of rear wheel travel // 170mm (6.7-inches) fork travel dw-link suspension design Internal cable...

ButtersNZ Added a comment about feature 2017 Vital MTB Trail Bike Test Sessions Introduction
3/23/2017 1:54pm Would it be possible to have reviewers ride the bikes without knowing what they are? Cover them up to obscure colours and details, have them ride some short loop of diverse terrain and rate the bikes on a few of the usual aspects. I wonder if there would be any difference to the results
