Recently discovered a crack in one of my carbon frames ISCG 05 Tabs, it looks like the lug has tried to rip out of the frame. If id have had some big impacts on the bash guard it would make sense but I haven’t had any so I’m saying this is an abnormality.
I’ve sent everything away to try and get my front triangle replaced under warranty - used all the key words such as it was being used as per design for its intended use etc etc.
sooo just wondering what everyone thinks - a warranty issue or not ? And If they kick back any advice on arguments i should use ?
Depends on the brand, several will not warranty that type of damage.
It appears that nukeproof are one of those brands that will not, even though they do not specifically state that
Unless the damage is from the BB shell failing, why should they warranty busted tabs? The guide / taco is the only thing that can effect it, so hitting something is the only way to incur damage.
It sucks, but it's very unlikely to be a manufacturing defect.
frame impacts are not warranty coverd. bash guards are dumb.. bend chainrings instead of breaking tabs on the frame...
I see what you’re saying - its the impact that causes the failure but what I don’t agree with is Why include the tabs as part of the frame and then not warranty them when they fail being used for their intended use - i don’t see how a manufacturer can make a frame with these mounts, make products for these mounts with their name actually being a bash guard and then not guarantee them when said bash guard is installed?
It’s encouraging the consumer to partake in an activity that will knowingly lead to failure, without specifying any voiding of warranty from using these mounts in this way.
It’s pretty crazy.

ISCG tabs are a tricky topic, personally I've chosen to use them to mount guides, and run a crank mounted bash ring. It's oldskool I know, but I'd rather have a few cheaper parts in line to fail before the frame gets damaged.
Having worked in sales/customer service at two different brands that produce chainguides, I have not seen a set of ISCG tabs fail. On some older steel/alloy bikes I have seen some bend. Typically the backplate is softer (more apt to bending) than passing all the force onto the tabs.
That said, a chainguide is a product built by a secondary supplier. If for example you smash your derailleur and your hanger breaks, the hanger is not going to be warrantied. Similarly, if you damage the frame when that happens, the frame would not likely be under warranty. The hanger is designed to take the brunt away from the frame and designed in a sense to fail. But that does not guarantee further damage won't occur.
Ultimately warranty is to cover manufacturing defects. It very well could be a bad bond to the tabs in which case they should definitely warranty it. The first thing they will likely ask for is a shop to inspect it or the triangle be sent in. They could find/call it impact damage in which case they will likely offer crash replacement.
Either way, sorry to hear you have to deal with the damage. Good luck and hopefully it is a simple warranty and they hook you up.
