Do you really need gloves when you're riding?
Just for style, or maybe for safety?

dude i wear gloves so i dont get blisters and if i fall i can put my hands out without worrying about messin up my hands.
plus they look cool.

Dude Bro… I wear gloves to keep my hands from slipping when the grips get sweaty and to protect my hands in a crash and when I clip a tree at speed. I just wish that they were less expensive. You can go to the hard wear store nowadays and get the same glove in a different color for ten dollars. But if you buy them from the bike shop they cost four times as much just because they're for mountain biking.

I only use gloves if there is a chance of a crash on certain rides that are fast and have rocks. I have found grips that don't get slippery from sweat and are comfortable so I don't get blisters. Many pro racers risk it and don't use gloves so they can have more grip. It is all opinion and the way your hands are made. Biking is expensive so now that you're broke and your girlfriend has left you, go ride your damn bike!

The only time I don't wear them would be on a trail ride on a cool day . I find it helps big time when your throwing barspins or riding Street

I only use gloves when its really cold or I am expecting to fall a lot and don't want to ruin my hands. I find that my hands overheat way too quickly and I prefer the feeling of skin to grip vs glove to grip.

I like using gloves only when im on rides but not around the neighbor hood. They look cool and are great protection and give me extra grip.

In many situations (not always) the first part of your body to touch the ground during a fall are your hands, so I wear gloves all the time for protection.

Not really concerned about getting blisters/callus, my hands and feet are full of those because of rock climbing.Smile

Regular trail rides, street, dj, and park I'll go without (with some exceptions). Downhill and cold weather is when I wear them the most.

GLOVELESS ALL DAY EVERY DAY!!!!! yes its not as safe and I have scraped my hands sometimes but for me its all worth it for the control,feel and steeze (ignore my profile pic,that was years ago)

Nope, I've tried over the years a number of times and I end up taking them off by the end of the day no matter what trail/track I'm riding. The only problem I have had in all this time is putting a stick through the soft skin on the base of my right little finger after sliding into a bank, a fair amount of blood and a little scar but not enough to make me wear gloves.

I feel naked without gloves. I have had enough spills removing skin from my palms that I know their value.

Raced Bmx for years, hated wearing gloves. That is until that one time I pulled up for a jump and my hand slipped off the grip. Got broken ribs. Don't hate gloves anymore.

I need my hands for work so I wear gloves in case of a crash. I can't tell you how many times I've clipped trees and still ended up with battered/bruised hands. On the road is different however, depends on the weather.

Hands are bad for cuts. They heal super slowly. Everyone knows that sweet spot where you get a scab blister thing from your hand moving constantly.

Yeah, not worth it. Our two thumbs are what separates us from most of the animal kingdom, protect em.

I only wear gloves if it is really cold. I find gloves give me blister and because I row, my hands have become really tough. over time your hands will harden up, but it depends on conditions, and I also think about wearing them for protection.

you can also use baseball gloves if you can find some with good grip.
i had to wear baseball gloves on Monday because i lost my mtb gloves. they worked quite well actually.
the kept my hands warm too since it was a cold day.

Yes, wear gloves. The primary reason for me is protection when i fall.

One of my very first rides was glove free, fell going around a bend and was out of action for a week due to a gorge in my palm.

Maybe it's tougher not to wear gloves, but it's way smarter to wear 'em!
