That said the bit of the no service video that seems funny is in the middle. I'm not claiming to be an expert though. I figure there's a chance I'm wrong.
As someone who was fast once, I can tell you that 100% of my GoPro footage looked slow and boring. I would ride the shit out of a trail and the GoPro footage afterwards would put me to sleep. I know technology has come a long way and there are things you can do to framing to make footage look better, but if I see GoPro footage that looks like warp speed, it's probably because it's been tinkered with. Vinny T Go Pros, JKW at Raging River, and some others in this thread just straight up look fishy.
"Why would vinny t or jkw speed up stuff? they don't need to because they've proven themselves otherwise." We're not talking about Greg Minnaar, Kyle Strait, or Richie Schley here. The guys we're talking about have not "arrived" at forever paycheck land. These are all guys that are hustling to make a career out of riding and to lock-in real adult salaries. They are hustling. They have everything to benefit from doing fishy stuff.
THEY MAKE THEIR LIVING CONVINCING PEOPLE TO WATCH THEIR BIKE RIDING.
Superview + 24fps + gimbal...I could ride at 80% and it isn't that discernible to me going 100%. Everything looked fast.
Btw, there are enough video nerds out there, proving this one shouldn't be *too* hard.
- gopro footage is generally boring, so how could *rad* POV footage be the main reason these riders are making "real adult salaries?" speeding up boring footage 10% would still be boring. going to 25% would be way too obvious.
because i like to be redundant, "they make their living by convincing people to watch their bike riding" in other situations than POV. Rampage is a HUGE deal for Vinny T's following...in today's age, that should be considered "arrived." JKW is a legit ripper and definitely has that "ambassador" element with personality and/or connections w/ industry etc. Telling stories, going on adventures and meeting people, cracking that magic youtube code as vlogger is where the value is for brands and the rider, not 10% faster riding footage. (personally i wish tall, lanky, jaded, grumpy PNW downhillers with insightful and belittling robotic blog posts were what youtube found engaging more than inspiring, peppy, cheer-me-uppers in camper vans *following their passion* because i'd follow that rider's vlog and give to his patreon all day)
- you were fast but your gopro footage was boring. as you and brines pointed out, angle and gear is everything. the riders trying to make a living out of this did their homework and have researched the best camera settings, angles and equipment to make their riding look as fast as possible. no different than studying race lines, right? if this truly is their job trying to win the internet, they're treating the whole process as such. footage from years ago can't compare to footage from today w/ all the gear/knowledge.
and, with all this said, they could be speeding their footage up, i have no idea. i genuinely have no stake in this game at all. if they are speeding it up, they're weird for doing so. 10% faster footage is just as forgettable as a world record quintuple mcflindle dip you scroll right by.
to make this even longer...someone mentioned slice of british pie. if you watch that opening sequence with phil holding the pie going to the boat...even that section is dropping frames which could be interpreted as sped up. i think a ton of this stuff has to do w/ frame rates, renders and other boring technical stuff.
Now of course that was a life stream replay and maybe it was just on my screen or something, but it goes to show things can look strange due to technical reasons or whatever, as i´m prety sure RB didn´t speed up Greg´s race run
