riders that i've heard confirmed are troy brosnan, mick hannah, connor fearon, graeme mudd, jack moir and josh button. because button and mudd top 10'd at cairns, they are instant selections. the others are based on world cup results from the rest of the season. sam has missed some races and hasn't had stellar results when he's raced. again, i understand the letter of the law and the choices made, but just bummed for sam and the sport if he won't be at vds.
Only problem with that is Button got injured at Ft Bill and was told he wasn't going to be allowed to put any weight on his hip for nine months. I've been talking to him and it's become much better that he was originally told. He is hoping to be back for Worlds somehow. Been off the crutches for a few weeks now and just gone into physio. Let's hope he can still race!

If Sam isn't bummed, then it falls into the 'no worries' category. Terrible news for the fans, but I'm sure Sam doesn't mind being home with his family either.

Creative solution: get him US citizenship and have him race with Gwin on our team, that would be a quarenteed win

Sam has been named as the first reserve so there's still a chance...

Josh B's instagram read that Sam was in as a "reserve" rider and that he might step away to let Sam ride.

Honestly, as much of a fan of Sam as I am, if Button is healthy enough to ride and give it a good go then he should by no means give away his spot to sam. Josh's had a fantastic start of the season, before destroying himself, and he should be rewarded for that!

So screw a bunch of new, younger riders who deserve a spot for nostalgias sake? Sounds good to me.
Sounds totally fair. Give the up and comers a shot, if they have the results to back it up. DH is a cruel animal, if your head (or body) isn't in it, you're done, and there might not be any recovering from it. I'm not saying this is the case with Sam, but it could be. Hard to stay on top. After all these years of racing and now having kids, its hard to be away from them. Having kids makes everything else seem unimportant.

Whereas in enduro, he seems to have a future. Solid, consistent results in a sport that could see him be competitive well into his late 30's.

No disrespect, just throwing it out there.
