Hello,

I'm considering your Balance plus a few others. I ride up to ride down plus race enduro. When we get tired, we use the chairlift and ride the DH trails at Bromont.
Why should I buy your bike over the Evil Wreckoning, Transition Patrol and or the Devinci Spartan?
Thanks
Those are all great bikes-
I guess it depends on your needs-
If you want carbon or not.
But performance it why people buy Canfields.

Love your approach to bike design and having fun. Is there a steel 27.5 hardtail in the future of Canfield Bikes? How about an EPO with sliding dropouts? Or is that a non-starter because it's carbon?

No 27.5 hardtail in the mix. The +wheels on the 29ers seems to fit the need well enough.
EPO with sliders..... it's been talked about. But not sure we will do it on the next revision. I do love me some SS riding though.

Lance, can you talk about what has been like and meant to you to be essentially on the road for 2-3 years? What was your favorite spots and what were some of the low points being a bike gypsy?
It's been great in a lot of ways and tough at the same time. Being away from the office is really difficult to keep everything moving but I have an amazing support team, Chris Vin and Sean. Keeping a good internet connection has proven a little difficult at times, that a big one for us.
I love being able to travel and being at great riding locations, usually right out my door. I'm parked near Whiteface right now, mountain town like Whistler, Grand Targhee and Big Sky are some favorites. Bootleg, Sedona and Phx in the winter are amazing.
We tried RV living out for the last three years and decided we like it, so we are still on the road.
I enjoy watching the UCI Downhill Pro's and always thought what would these guys do on a "Jedi" or the EWS with a Riot or Balance? Any thought on getting your frames in these competitions or am I just not seeing them?

I had an Evil Uprising before the canfield balance. The uprising was a bit poppier but was not the same level of plow bike. I think the balance is crazy plush, pedals as well as the evil, and is generally capable of getting more rowndy. Obviously the wreckoning packs a bit more punch than the uprising. But comparing CBF to DELTA, I prefer the CBF for my style of riding (more forgiving of horrible line choice)
to add to that, all my friends prefer the balance when we switch bikes compared to the uprising. figure it qualifies my description above since they would have less bias.

Thank you for the response. I'm not to bothered if the bike is made of plastic fantastic or metal. Just want something that gets me to the top without to much pain and is a blast headed down.

Can we expect any changes for the Riot (other than boost)? It would be nice to see the frame accept 160mm forks.
so- 160mm rear travel. Maybe 160/180 with another shock hole position.
150mm spacing in the rear.
The riot will change to fit the 150 fork for the next version.
Not sure we will test with the 160 on there.
But sure seems that people are in love with the longer fork on a shorter rear thing.

I love watching WC racing too and wish I still had the body to still do it.
I have always wanted to have a world cup team like the big companies.

Please explain differences between CBF and ICT from Ellsworth.

Is it more than just same idea on single pivot vs a four bar?
How does CBF perform if you want to run a bigger front ring like a 36t, or smaller like a 28T?
Seems like it is married to a specific size front ring.
Thanks!
Both the CBF and ICT track the Instant Center pretty tightly. Of course it's not possible to be aligned with the IC 100% of the travel or in 100% of the gears in the rear.
Any up or down shift in the rear cogs will move the chainline alignment with the IC a bit.
With the IC on the CBF be so close to the ring vs the ICT-
It holds tighter to the IC in all the gears.
This IC being closer to the ring- also project the Anti-rise (braking) closer to the ideal 100% too. 100% would be neutral.
OR just look at these side by side in the anti-squat and anti-rise charts- both with 32t x16t.
"How does CBF perform if you want to run a bigger front ring like a 36t, or smaller like a 28T?

All suspension layout are designed around ONLY one size front ring. The IC aligning with the chainline can only happen to the ring the designer chooses.
The CBF layout has such a tight grouping of the IC and CC- the effects of ring changes, isn't as dramatic as a layout with a IC and a CC really far away from the chainring.
As a reference-
both the riot and Balance are designed for the 30t-32t rings- (perfect on the 31, but is so close too 100% Anti-squat on both that we wanted to have two that worked Ideal)
But a 28t only raises the Anti-squat by 5%
34t- at 95%
So a 36t would be at 90%.
My favorites:
Flow - Dirt Merchant, Whistler
Tech - Ginger, Bootleg
Single track - lower Porcupine, Moab
Free ride - Virgin, Utah of coarse, Bartlets is a close second.
Anything with a shuttle or lift that's new to me and the gnarlier the better.
I'm partial to the Riot, it's a little shorter CS and the bigger wheels roll over stuff great. It's a touch lighter as well. I'm a light guy and fairly smooth and can "get away with" a lighter built. The Balance is really purpose made for enduro, tough like Dh and climbs very smoothly and efficient. Anyone that puts the hurt on bikes is going to love the Balance.
trails....
- the secret area I can't talk about---
- Orcus Island- 53 jumps of bliss
- I-street in SLC- my old jumps
- D1 NZ-
- And like Lance- anything with a lift and I'm happy.
Thanks everyone for the opportunity to be here. Without our riders, friends and family, we wouldn't be here, pushing to make unique innovative equipment to ride faster and be more fun to ride. If you have any questions, were always around.

I bug Lance about have one for me to race DH on- ALL THE TIME.
I have a 160-180mm model of the Riot I would love to do. 150 rear end of course.
It's on my radar for sure.

The Hot Seat is officially over, but I'm sure the brothers will lurk here and pick up any loose questions when they have time.
