Shims provide damping in suspension by covering up a valve so theonlyway for oil to get through is by bending the shims open. The more shims you have, the harder it is for the oil to flow, ie making your forks firmer or rebound slower.

Not sure on the 888, but some of the older Marz. forks used a port valve. This means that the oil control comes from the size of the holes in the valve and damping tube. This is limiting though, and you can not change high OR low speed damping. Both will change with each adjustment.

Spent $275 and a week at PUSH and got a fjork full of shims back. Should have had it SHOVE'd instead.

I got an e-mail about how I could have more shims in just three to four weeks, increasing the performance of my suspension, and thus gaining the love of my otherwise-disappointed girlfriend. I was so tempted by the promise of more shims that I opened the attachment in the e-mail, but it took me to a site with only text. Now my computer doesn't work as well.

My girlfriend laughs at my shim. Kinda sucks. But it's old and has a chip broken off it and I didn't keep it lubricated so it's all discolored. Oh well.
It led a shims life.
