Martin just built up this new ride. What the Status and not the Demo? Martin says it's because it has slightly shorter chainstays and a higher BB so it should be easier to trick. He says there are no easy tricks at Rampage so he's looking to make the best of it.

why not the demo?
isn't the status just a cheap frame just to fill in the gaps for specialized market?

I think the status isn't necessarily a cheaper frame, though the build components are less expensive than they will spec on a demo. It's more of a DH bike with entry level geometry and pricing.

We all need to think about marketing here, the Status needed to be used/approved by riders in a major event to get it to sell. Anyone that looks at the Specialized website, or, god forbid, measure it yourself, knows that the Status chainstays are LONGER than the DEMO. Both Darren and Martin are quoted saying the Status has shorter stays, and Berrecloth said it had more 'pop' for jumps. Why not have FOX (or Cane Creek, SRAM, etc.) customize the rear shock on the Demo for more 'pop'...? The marketing coach for Specialized should have tried a little harder to get these guys, or their agents, to get them to say something that doesn't make them look dumb. I guarantee that Darren knows that the demo has a shorter chainstay...
