Pumping feature on e-bike?

With the magnetic Hall Ring on the new ebike systems (DJI) they are adding new features like traction control, hill assist, preload, and better riding experience with refined overrun and starting from a stop.  I’ve always wondered if someone would add a pump feature; basically adding motor assist when the computer senses that the rider is pumping to gain speed.  Its harder to pump on an ebike for a lot of reasons so it would be nice if the motor compensated for the extra weight.  Could even have a setting that doubled or tripled your effort.  Trick will be teaching the computer how to distinguish a pump from a g-out.  But there must be a data signature of a pump if you look at all the data.

Question is - would you want it?

I think it would be interesting to try…

demonic idea dude wow

are we sure that it’s harder to pump on an e-bike? Because of the weight? I have DH tires on my Repeater, would not have the same on an equivalent Sentinel, but other than that…sentinel’s not really gonna pump too well either. I dunno. I avoid pump tracks, especially on FS bikes, but I definitely feel like I can lay into my eeb on trail enough…more concerned with slowing down, not speeding up.

but sure, put it in there and I’ll try it. I enjoy geeking a corner and getting back up to trail speed with a quick couple cranks, so maybe there’s a new sit-down moto-style cornering technique to learn with your feature

it’s wild how fast people have decided they need e-bikes to be better. They are so sick!

Sounds like you need more low speed compression!

Lol. I imagine seeing someone just wildly pumping down the street instead of pedaling.

Other than that I think it could be a pretty distracting feature, sometimes I think I'm not necessarily pumping for speed but for traction and in that case the back wheel getting going could be annoying. Interesting idea though.

I think it’s just the weight of the bike that makes less fun to pump on flow trails.  I didn’t notice it on the SL bike I borrowed for a lap.  Not sure this feature would be a good idea - just popped in my head when I read about the DJI hall ring.  They would definitely need to sort out the assist so that it’s didn’t activate under normal compressions or g outs - just when the computer detects your weight moving back, pressure on the pedals and the speed increasing.
