I must suck at Googling, because I can't find the answer to this. Are there differences beyond the damper between the 38 Rhythm and Performance Elite? I'm about to buy a Transition Repeater with the 38 Rhythm on it.
I like support and controlled damping vs wide-open plush. Would I be OK with the Grip? I've got a Mezzer Pro on my 170 mtb and don't run it fully open like many do. I can't ride hard for 6 months, so I might just roll with the basic fork, for now.
Go the basic, if you feel like it's not working for you, you can always upgrade the internals down the line.
No, the uppers are different as well - the performance elite uses 7000 series stanchions which are lighter than the 6000 series in the Rhythm. You cannot swap the airsprings between the 2 due to the wall thickness differences.
who do you want to make wet?
dampeners, hairsprings, aluminium in the stanktions—all different
Thanks all. Did some more digging, and since I like more compression wetting I'm going to go order up another Mezzer. Sounds like this chassis isn't worth upgrading.
