We've done San Diego and Santa Cruz at Christmas and had amazing weather and great riding. Both seemed to have a few days of fantastic trail but tough to fill an entire week without insider knowledge.
Bootleg and Sedona are awesome and we've enjoyed incredible weather in both during shoulder seasons but would definitely be a gamble over Christmas so tough to commit to.

Is there a vital bike test this winter?
Well here's Jonny on the ball and in the know. I have no arguments for anything he said. Really, the LBS, or as you know it, the Local Bike Shop, has any (Up until the most secret) information that you might need. Mountain bikers love mountain bikers. Pick your spot, (I'm obviously a Santa Crux fan.) check in at the LBS and you should be on your way. If they send you on a bike path, let me know and I'll set them straight.
Thanks Big Bird! We rode something from demo down to the LBS and that was good times. Demo, Wilder, and McCrary made some smiles too. Some other place too... Memory fading

re: mexico, i've never been, but always thought punta san carlos looked pretty rad for a camp/bike/surf/trip. the riding may be a bit one-dimensional though - http://solosports.net/Activities/biking.htm
And, it's only 25-min from Downtown SD! Mucho gusto! @ 0:55 in that video, they're watching me crash going through that first sketch rock section.... solid.

Love one-lap... Because of those clips we've checked out really wonderful trails that otherwise wouldn't have bothered with.
