Rems Added a reply to The Best Component Upgrade for a Mountain Bike?

3/30/2020 12:40pm
As said above, it really depends on the bike. For me it's all about having a balanced build. Putting high end stuff on a crappy bike won't help that much and in the end it will probably costs more than buying a good bike. That being said, I think a common overlooked "upgrade" would be a good full service. Servicing...
Alright, for the knees I find that it is extremely personal. Last time I bought kneepads, I had to try like a dozen brands/models/sizes before finding some that really fitted me well (fox launch pro d3o). However you can look toward lightweight "xc" kneepads like gform, poc air, etc They aren't always certified but even then should provide some pretty...
Hi, first congrats to your dad for still riding ! To answer your question, the first thing is to determine what kind of armour you are looking for: parts of the body you want to protect (or type of injury you are afraid of) and riding style. Generally speaking forget everything with a rigid shell and go for d3o like...

Rems Added a reply to Sweat in my eyes

Met has been using that kind of technology (at least on the full face parahute). I'm easily sweating from the head and experience the same kind of issues with regular helmets. On the met the front pad is replaced by a full silicone pad with small "channels" to make the sweat run on the side and it does work pretty...

According to the mtbr thread, with a 55mm shock you get around 155mm of travel. Right now the bike is feeling pretty awesome, really balanced for enduro racing. I'm considering lowering the front travel to 150-155 to get a little more relaxed geo though. For the 53mm stroke, its just a 2mm travel spacer to add to a 55mm shock. It's possible to do it without going for a full service on the shock.

You guessed right. No issue with the rear wheel. According to the mtbr.com thread, it's possible to get a good 160mm of travel without hitting the tire (possibly only on the high position though).

Rems Added a reply to Discussion: Sped up and manipulated MTB footage

5/30/2019 12:45pm
Disregarding the social media aspect and questions of why would people speed things up, here is a quick though: In the photography world, we know there is a lot of photoshoping and editing going around. Now People tend to say this about any photo that isn't "raw out of the camera", but it is widely acknowledged that photography is an...

Well, intentionally speeding up is definitively lame. I remember being a teenager (before instagram even existed) and being impressed by a semi-pro european movie (Virtuous from Ionate). And my older brother-in-law who worked in tv production told me some of the parts where sped-up, like 10-20% maybe. To me it wasn't that obvious at first, but he told me to...

Well reading all the posts I struggle to grasp where @jeff.brines is being emotional and defends RR and JG. To me (overall) he's just saying "wait until the hearing and let the riders have a chance to defend themselves in front of the institutions" On the contrary I feel that people asking already for strong punishment or calling them cheaters...

@jimmy Who is talking about giving a pass ? We're talking about staying put and measured as long as we don't have all the facts and the sentences from governing bodies. I can see two opposite points of view in the above (here with a touch of caricature) : - first the "burn these motherfu****** cheaters in hell with armstrong...

@jeff.brines I hear you, and overall I think like you that we should remain cautious and measured about all this. I mean it would be crazy to punish the same way someone being caught while speeding 2 mph above the limit and someone driving recklessly at 200 mph. And yet both people were speeding. On the other side (and I...

Except for 2 details: We should check the rules but from what I understood the B sample testing is mandatory, the rider only gets the right to be present or represented during the testing process. And I'm sure about the fact that samples A and B are from the same collection. So sample B can only prevent a manipulation or...

A couple more things not directly related to the testing process: from a medical point of view each individual should be considered as unique. It just means that every person is reacting differently and for some biological parameters or drug metabolism you can find (very) large discrepancies (even without pathology). If I remember correctly this is how Froome tried to...
