The bigger wheels didn’t help the Mega 290 in the playfulness department, but I think much of the Giga’s strength here relates to its suspension design and rear shock. It popped off obstacles with more amplitude than my personal Mega 275, which has 15mm less rear travel than the Giga. I suspect Nukeproof made it a priority to give the Giga a playful feel, and they did an impressive job achieving it, in my opinion.

The internals of the hub felt like they weren’t engaging properly under hard pedaling, so the cranks would turn a few degrees without turning the hub before catching again, only to slip slightly again a turn or two later. It was noisy and made it impossible to really pick up any speed. Given DT Swiss’s reputation, I believe this was likely a freak failure of some type, but I didn’t have time to figure out exactly what was wrong before the bike had to go back.

In the not-so-distant past, riding a six- or seven-inch travel mountain bike meant you were taking a truck or lift to the top of the hill — or you were that lonely freerider damned to a life of...

It is irresponsible for Vital to promote these bikes to its readership. I bought a hardtail in my late 30s. Now I ride only at the dirt jumps, surrounded by 15-year-olds, wearing jeans that look like they could be my wife’s. It is no way to live.

Great review. I'm expecting my Process to arrive this week. Is 14.5 kg the bike's current weight or the out-of-the-box figure?

Had the bike for 3 months now and every time I ride it just seems to get better! My medium was 14.5kg with pedals and came with i25 rather than i23 rims as listed The Bars are nice and wide clutch mech, brakes (with big discs) have worked impressively, grips are nice too, saddle is very comfy, the cranks are ok but they are flexy compared to the frame (can tell when I push on them by hand dont really notice when riding). Wheels seem great if not the lightest, came already taped for tubeless so just had to add...
