johnsonleslini Added a comment about slideshow 2021 Leogang World Cup Downhill Race Slideshow
6/15/2021 4:51pm Thank you Sven, Boris and Dan. Content like this for free is so sick and appreciated. If I had a single ask, it would be a rewind/scrubbing feature for longer interviews unless not having that is a journalistic intent.

3/19/2019 3:35pm Oh for sure, no bashing at all against those guys. I just meant specifically with the builds here. Speaking of Specialized, I was torn between a Stumpjumper Evo and this until the details were released. The Evo Pro Carbon would get 6/5 stars for value if this gets 4 at the same price point. "C" frame, Stylo cranks and Code R brakes on a $6,599 bike with mid-teir suspension is just off the mark. People will buy the shit out of it though, so who am I to comment really.

3/19/2019 12:49pm You're right about generally losing money in the event of a return, especially a frame-up build return. Except obviously most of these bikes will not be returned, and it will be rare for the type of customer buying a high end bike that requires a frame-up build to do it through click-and-collect. Most cases will be: shop receives the order...

3/19/2019 12:31pm I stand by my work and put my name to everything that leaves my workshop. It is not shoddy in any way. Ever. If it was, I would not be in my position.

3/17/2019 7:50pm 3) Five hours?? First, the vast majority of bikes will not be S-Works and any somewhat experienced shop should be able to have a box bike complete within an hour. You already mentioned they aren't paying for this in the first place, so treat it like any other regular bike order. Reboxing is an hour (at most), and I'm not...

3/17/2019 7:18pm Just "Slapping" a bike together can take as little as 15 mins. (edit: a regular build does take more time, but certainly not anywhere near 3 hours) In my company 3hrs would be considered slow for the kind of build you mention. If we factored in every potential problem and worried about them we'd never build any bikes... there's got to be a limit to planning for snafu's and if you're getting the same issues every bike then you should to be kicking arse with your suppliers. I regularly have to trim brake hoses from new and its super rare...

3/16/2019 8:15am Good point, especially that shops get to just watch sales roll in without investing any time in customer interaction beforehand. Surely any loss in margins will be made up for with that fact alone, not to mention the opportunity to then build relationships with those customers. Seems like a win-win-win to me.

3/15/2019 7:25pm The margin is shared between Specialized and the retailer with zero risk to the retailer. It seems to me like a slightly more efficient way to purchase Specialized products but without the services and personal experience that a shop provides pre-purchase. Curious to see how many more purchases this will lead to vs. going to or simply calling a shop...

8/23/2018 6:54pm Pretty much the exact same experience as Phil here. It's a real bummer that the isolated issues they've had are turning people away from the helm. I've spent a good chunk of time on the other big players- pike, 36, currently have an Ohlins RFX 36- the helm was on a different level of performance and tuning altogether and felt exactly the same after a season of riding.

8/23/2018 6:45pm I went a whole year without servicing my Cane Creek Helm (air). I had it set to 140mm mode, I put it through the paces at from Pisgah NC, to some of Whistler's toughest trails; I rode it during hot summer days as well as below-freezing New England conditions and after a full year of abuse, it was still working beautifully. I'm honestly not sure what more you could ask for.
