Jeez, it's not everyday that something you shot more than 15 years ago gets referenced in a forum thread! The small crash he had on the second shot was literally the second shot we shot that day, and was actually pretty harsh, and almost caused the whole shoot to be cancelled.

Finale will be absolutely perfect for what you're after! Any normal tourist could go and love the place and have no idea about the bike trails. It's a proper little Italian town, not just a full-on tourist trap like many other places. My girlfriend loves it there and she doesn't ride MTB.

I've been to NZ a bunch over the years, been based in both islands on numerous occasions, and have always had a 160mm enduro bike with me. Literally never once wished I had anything else. Easiest decision ever.
