the 180 enduro bike sticks to the ground like glue... which is really great on corners and off-cambers where you make your time mostly... i too would love to ride this bike to see what extra specific details could have been added to make it a performer on the DH track...

the CES is not "dumbed down"... there are entry-level events and there are top level events... our strategy is to meet ppl where they are and give them something they can enjoy... this is why we have different venues and different events with different focus... two years ago we created the Golden Tour to differentiate the races that will be there to challenge the top classes... but that does not mean that we need to send Beginner, and Sport riders down international pro level tracks... China Peak, N*, and Mammoth have that high-level challenge (we are always pushing the Mammoth...

the EWS scene can be what it needs to be, thats not my conern... my concern and Heath's concern is to create a network of events in California that scaffold up to these EWS events. At the local level, this year and last year we had some courses that were touching on EWS level demanding for local riders, and it was too much... For us, we are looking for ways to get people into the sport and staying in the sport... while then also preparing the riders who want to go far the courses and racing that they need to...

It's been creeping up in the last 2 years I would say... Enduro has a slight inferiority complex to World Cup DH in some ways and we feel the pressure to step up, but I agree Heath, that the courses should be doable at slow speed and have an element of pedaling to go fast, not only stay off the brakes and hope for the best.

7/21/2018 2:24pm Wow, I literally composed an email to CES organizers, Northstar and Erik Saunders about this exact thing. Stiks, I said the same thing about the late 90's Norba issues citing it as the beginning of the decline of DH in America. I'm glad Mitch spoke up, he knows the difference between gnarly and stupid. Getting crazy to get crazy is not the way to grow the sport. There's a better way to improve attendance and grow the sport and that's the next step in putting on races. Places like Downieville and Ashland have natural trails that are ridable at slow...

its a nice feature to have that alignment line... its not going to be easy to get fork steerers to have that line though... putting it in the same place every time, and just plain taking the time to do it is a big hurdle... but hopefully we can see it happen because it makes things easier for end-users... the front of my stem is flat so its really easy to align in it with the flat front edge of my fork arch...

yeah- ppl want this stuff and i think this is where the industry is going to add these kinds of improvements to bikes that ppl not currently riding will find useful... for the US market i can see that Scott seems an odd choice, but for the EU market Scott is seen a lot more as a very high-tech and innovative company...thats where they are based, and thats their big market...

I weigh 195, over 205 with clothing and gear. I have my Quadiems set up with 8"/7" rotors on an Enduro that weighs about 36lbs with tools in the down tube and dh tires. I have never thought in any moment that they lack power. I think in these tests where they are going off the perception of power based on lever pressure you will never beat a lever with a progressive leverage curve like a shimano brake... The lever ramps up so much, but that's what a lot of riders like about more linear levers, the modulation is great...

Michelin used Silica in bike tires 20 years ago and continues to... As do others... I remember when the first wet weather tires came out for road bikes from Michelin you could corner almost as well on wet pavement... They were unreal at the time...

"Levy's 'none of the tested brakes were terrible' approach" is cracking me up... but hey... none of these brakes will really slow you down any if you know what i mean... you can ride or you cant in the end...

thorough review guys, but i am a bit surprised that you do not back the qualitative insights of how the brakes perform with actual quantitative measurements - aka the (german) Bike method of dyno'ing the brakes to accurately test different parameters with a given/limited set of variables. The test method you have chosen gives a fair few good insights into what differentiates the different brakes in how the tester perceives them to be during use, but does the chosen analytic approach sufficiently negate individual bias or individual differences due to less than perfectly set up brake sets or negate differences...
