Love these bikes. Really cool build too. Is the matching fork a wrap or paint?

Thanks @iceman2058. I’d like to thank the academy obviously, and my parents, and mr. Starley for starting this whole bicycle thing…

The video on the front page at digitbikes.com shows a prototype getting ridden fairly hard. This production bike is much more robust than the prototypes.

It’s fantastic both up and down. I expected improvements compared with the garage-built prototypes*, but it rides even better than I’d hoped. (*which already got very positive reviews: digitbikes.com/bikes/p/datum#Reviews).

DirtBaggies Added a comment about press release DATUM by DIGIT BIKES, featuring ANALOG suspension

My concentric BB assembly is designed to address the shortcomings of other manufacturers prior attempts. I just wrote a blog post about it: kickstarter.com/projects/digitbikes/digitbikes/posts/3313339. The proprietary shock parts are no more difficult keep in stock than the proprietary deraillleur hangers and pivots parts on other bikes.

Curious, CF why? For instance, I was on an Alu bike and setting KOM's at my local park...now I am on CF and the bike lost 6lbs over my previous bike...while the ride is FAR better on an S-Works than on an Alu Specialized, I am not going all that much faster. The ride quality would be far more reliant on the design of the frame (and fork) than that of the material in use.

One big reason I'm making them locally, from aluminum, is that the supply chain to build new CF bikes is in such turmoil at the moment. Once (if?) things settle down, it's likely there will eventually be carbon models, I've made lots of CF bikes before. Suns_PSD did say that he wasn't going to be the first to sign up, maybe wanting CF is a delaying tactic ;-). Kickstarter is indeed an unusual model, I don't expect everyone to be good with it. I've been very transparent about who I am and the editorial reviews have commented on my known...

I'm intrigued, how many concentric BB's have you had, and what about them has sucked? I've been testing this design for about two years with no problem, but I'm eager to learn if there's something I should be looking out for.

Nice. I am just old...recently I got the S-Works Epic Evo and was -stunned- as to how little mass in in the headtube (looking in with out a fork). It is a wide open cavity but for two rings to hold the headset.

There's really no such thing as 'over-engineered' when it comes to safety, but some would call this aspect over-engineered: The head tube's internal profile is designed specifically to reinforce this aspect, and the frame's manufacturing sequence and cartridge design of the strut allow for easy assembly. I’ve used an IS-type headset because it moves the loads away from the head tube's opening, which is so advantageous that I've never seen a cracked IS-type head tube (in well over a decade of working with them). The prototypes have been validated by plenty of testing thus far (including years of riding), and...

The recent interest in axle path is mostly related to high-pivot/idler bikes, which mine isn't. For me axle-path is simply a contributing factor to the graphs I have shown (similarly I've shown wheel rate forces, not separate graphs for airspring and linkage rates which are somewhat meaningless on their own because the best thing you can do with them is tune them to work in harmony).

I'm only aware of one integrated dropper post, it doesn't offer much if any benefit over conventional droppers, nor does it contribute my suspension system. If you know of an advantageous integrated dropper systems though, please let me know. A traditional shock would be quickly destroyed if employed in a similar design. The Integer Strut uses bushings like in a fork leg to control the upper pivots trajectory. This is described in greater detail at DigitBikes.com.
