We all need to think about marketing here, the Status needed to be used/approved by riders in a major event to get it to sell. Anyone that looks at the Specialized website, or, god forbid, measure it yourself, knows that the Status chainstays are LONGER than the DEMO. Both Darren and Martin are quoted saying the Status has shorter stays, and Berrecloth said it had more 'pop' for jumps. Why not have FOX (or Cane Creek, SRAM, etc.) customize the rear shock on the Demo for more 'pop'...? The marketing coach for Specialized should have tried a little harder to...

The rear linkage is different and the fork has more travel, therefore more travel and a slacker HT, the front triangle is identical to the enduro models since '11. My SX Trail has a front derailleur cuz it is steep where I live, it pedals everywhere! I think my '11 SX will be lighter as the frame isn't much heavier and I got a Float 180 RC2 instead of the VAN, 2.5 stick-e tires, reverb post, NO CARBON FIBER, 34.7 lbs!

Wow, Hard to imagine a world without 'em. The issues they dealt with when they first moved production away from Italy definitely hurt their reputation and their cashflow, hopefully someone will pick up the pieces...

Everybody needs to lighten up, this is just funny! If you actually think about it, the first real bikes that rode off-road were 29ers (cyclocross), and some manufacturers, like Ross in the early 80s, produced flat bar, fat tired 700c (29in if ya haven't figured that out yet), bikes that many of the old dogs you know were pioneering the trails you ride now on them.

Yeah Brian, you & I have had an international license thru USAC since we've been racing Pro, the only difference is you hafta put a picture on it for 'international competition'. In the above info it says 'pros and amateurs', you can't get an 'international license' thru USAC unless you qualify as Cat 1 to move into the Pro class, therefore, how could an American 'amateur' race DH1? Pro license: $150, Cat 1 license: $60, thats where the $90 comes from...

"open to all licensed riders" So I can print up a 'license' and compete...? "pros and amateurs" So if they mean a nationally recognized license, USAC 'pros' could downgrade to Cat 1 and still race DH1? That would save us $90, which @ 50 Euro for registration, could cover a race. Got to admit, allowing amateurs without an international license or UCI points to mix it up with the big boys if they can qualify could be interesting... By the way, Telluride would love to host another world-class DH event, ya think those boys are reading this?

Was it Yeti or Cannondale...? She is still an amazing rider and an inspiration to all U.S. riders that want to be world-class racers. Missy, you are welcome to shred with us anytime in Telluride, we opened up a DH Bike Park since you've been here last, it is open from 7am till dark, everyday in the summer, and the gondola ride to the top is ALWAYS FREE!!!!!!

Nice words Phil! I fully agree, DH racing is one of the most pure individual sports around. The Pro purse at most events doesn't come close to paying for your weekend and therefore, no 'performance enhancing drugs' and the best comraderie among your competitors than anything else I've been involved in. We do it because we love it! I won't be quitting anytime soon!

The first mtb race I ever went to, before I was a mtb racer, was the 1993 Ironhorse in Durango. It was SICK! The XC guys were competitive in DH and Budweiser sponsored an event called the Bud Dry Roostmaster (they also had a DS!) It was a loop of steep, technical trail that went up Chatman Hill and then dropped down a bermed singletrack switchback section into two big sets of doubles, 6+ ft high, 12-15 ft gaps, then a tight bermed and woopty section into a techy step up, back into the uphill. The race lasted about 30...
