If someone was blindly commited to shimano spd pedals it was me ! Then a pro racer who is actually sponsored by CrankBros gave me these E Mallet to try...
Well, I sorry Shimano, it was nice knowing you for 22 years or something, but I have a new girlfriend !

The Mallet E stock q-factor is the same (52mm) as the eggbeaters, candys, and mallet 2/3. Only the Mallet DH comes standard with the longer spindle (57mm). The input from our athletes and test riders in developing the Mallet E was that they wanted the 52mm q-factor for better maneuverability/clearance in the tighter trail conditions typical of enduro races, compared to DH races. The question of 'being able to clip out with rear foot when pedals are level' is dependent on shoe size, width, brand, model, cleat placement, etc. In some cases, simply adjusting the cleat towards the inside of the foot can make the difference. But we also understand that some people have larger feet, or simply prefer the wider q-factor of the 57mm spindles which is why we are offering the long spindle kit, and soon, the long spindle variety of the Mallet E.

We hear your feedback on the q-factor. Some riders prefer the shorter stock spindles for better clearance in tight trail conditions, while others prefer the longer spindles for stability and foot clearance from the cranks. We now offer a separate long spindle kit for anyone who wishes to increase the q-factor. We also plan to offer the Mallet E in a Long Spindle variety, available this summer.
