This one was assembled in WI through Project One, even though it was initially just a stock 9.8 XT. The turnaround at the time of order was 45 days instead of 6+ months.

Great question, as this was a huge concern of mine when I first fit the shock on the frame. I added a patch of Xpel Armor protection film on the kink of the seattube just in case; that wouldn’t be a long term solution if there is contact but it would likely get me through a ride. At sag and as the shock moves to at least 50% of the stroke, the link is actually moving the upper shock eyelet forward and the coil is further away from the seattube. After a few rides now, one with a few jumps that bottomed the fork, I see no signs of contact on the frame or coil. There aren’t signs of the shock bottoming but all is safe for now.

I’m a fan of the coil on the Fuel EX. This is a progressive rate spring; I also have a linear rate spring but haven’t found the need or want to try it yet. Cane Creek suggests the coil installed behaves similar to an air spring with 1 volume spacer as far as progressiveness. The shock is super active but I have yet to bottom it, even when jumping. The coil fork is a bit of a different story. That I’ve managed to bottom during jumps; I have a higher rate spring to install but I don’t want to sacrifice trail performance for the majority of my miles.

Looks great! How is the coil shock in there? I want to install one onto my fuel ex but some people say the linkage is too linear so the shock bottoms out to often? How does it feel for you and can you recommend it?

Did the stock bushings off the fox shock fit on the coil or was there any special hardware I need to get.

The stock shock was trunnion Thru Shaft, so there were mount kits required for the shock (from Cane Creek), as well as required frame mount hardware (from Trek). If the stock shock was traditional eyelet type, then it’s possible to reuse all of the existing mounting hardware.
