Fly bmx did this a while ago too...I think it's called the Cobra Tube, the end hooks around the valve so you don't have a "flat spot"

My roommate who raced the enduro said it was like an electronic adaptive suspension. The rear shock reacts to what the fork is experiencing and "locks out" or stiffens up if you're pedaling.
