Why We Would Buy AmFlow’s PX Carbon Pro

Vital Review
AmflowPX1

With so many Avinox-equipped e-bikes in the market, why would you buy the Amflow PX Carbon when you could buy an Avinox bike from a more established brand? That is what we spent the past few months trying to find out.

What Vital Liked

  • The general silhouette has not drastically changed. It’s still crazy slim for being a full-size e-bike, with a nice Stumpjumper-esque look.
  • Tons of adjustability baked into the frame to skew the geometry to be more aggressive or reserved depending on your needs. The stock geo package is also more progressive than before.
  • The two PX Carbon builds are fairly priced for the components you receive.

  • At 46.8 pounds (21.2 kg), it's one of the lightest M2S-equipped bikes out there.

  • The tunability and user interface of the Avinox system is one of the best I’ve experienced. It’s easy to navigate, has a wide range of adjustability, the display offers a ton of mid-ride metrics, and changes to assist modes are actually noticeable. The touchscreen also works well, and the dual wireless controllers are the icing on the cake of a system that really feels a step ahead of the competition.

  • M2S motor is wildly powerful yet impressively manageable despite the punch it carries. It's also crazy quiet even when hammering at max output.

  • SmoothShift feature, which lets you change gears without pedaling, was nice for preparing for the trail ahead and being in the right gear at all times.

  • Solid range, especially considering motor power and bike weight.

  • Descended with degree of composure above what was expected—

    • Calm and planted when charging into really rough sections

    • Great balance front-to-rear

    • Rear suspension was active and let the bike float through compressions, while also having a nice ramp in support that helped keep it from feeling sluggish

    • I could drive a lot of energy into the bike, especially through corners, without it squirming

    • Still had a fun level of poppy responsiveness on tap

What Vital Didn't Like

  • Frame felt stiff at times. I did experience some feedback through my hands, and a little bit through my feet. At times it was fatiguing, and required more focus and intention to keep the bike on line.
  • The accessory mount on the top tube did not come with bolts.
  • I wish the bike had a lower bashguard to protect the 38T chainring that is just waiting to get smashed.
  • Integrated headlight felt a bit goofy on a bike like this, and was immediately removed.
  • Cable ports near the head tube don’t hold the cables tight and they can rattle some in the frame.

  • The upper chain guide is pretty flimsy, and mine already looks a little bent.

Who is the PX Carbon For?

To answer my opening question in the video: I would 100% buy the PX Carbon Pro over an Avinox-equipped bike from a more established brand because it rode with a refined quality that was on par with the feel of bikes from more popular brands. Which is an impressive feat considering this is only AmFlow’s second go at making a bike.

The PX Carbon is way more than just an off-the-shelf frame with an M2S motor thrown in it, and it's noteworthy beyond having the best motor system you can get right now.

If you’re after that do-everything e-bike that won’t feel limited on descents, but will still be engaging and fun to ride, combined with all the adjustability you could ever want to personalize its abilities, then I’d definitely consider the PX carbon for your next e-bike.
