Pinkbike sells out

To bring up a shorter thread than the other one, Pinkbike just posted their first paywall story which is pretty much the first interesting thing with any substance that's been posted in months with Martin Whitely. And I cant even access it without paying.

Beta articles on pinkbike is how they plan to get you to subscribe to beta or the outside network. It’s no different model than all the subscription news stories which pay to advertise stories on your phones Home Screen and you can’t read without paying for them. It’s often easier to advantage of Americans desire for convenience then it is to convince them to sign up for something. If they really want to finish an article they’ll whip out the credit card and outside hopes they either don’t care enough or enjoy the platform enough not to cancel.

At the end of the day the only thing about it that kind of rubbed me the wrong way is they kind of sold people on paying for Trailforks on it being an app by riders for riders that needed to be more sustainable to grow and instead it became a chip in a sale. But at the end of the day unless they actually make the app shitty I’m not gonna stop paying for it.
