Good bike choice?

Started MTBing a couple summers ago riding a Trek Rail 7. I know e-bikes aren’t cool around here but it was fun. Was off this past summer due to an injury and had gotten rid of that.

Looking to go analog and am thinking Stumpjumper Alloy Comp. Seems to be a lot of bang for the buck at that level. Good dealer support here as well. I’m in Northwest Arkansas so tons of riding here. Need a single do it all bike. Biggest thing for me is being comfortable on the downhills. I’m 6’1” 200lbs. SJ evo might be better for that but want to keep some playfulness and good climbing. Anything else I should be looking at? It’s mostly Specialized and Trek sold around here. Some support for Yeti and Santa Cruz as well.

If it were me, I'd go with an EVO. If the biggest thing for you is comfort on the downs, EVO no questions asked. Obviously there are a million great choices for bikes right now, but out of what you have mentioned, I think that'd be my pick, especially where you're located and your stature. A lot of it is up to which trails you're riding as well. If you're more into doing big loops on back 40 or little sugar, something like the regular stumpjumper may be better. But if you're riding leatherwood or ponca type trails where you're wanting downhill performance but also needing a bike that can pedal, EVO would be better. New Trek Fuel EX would also be a great option.

Just built up anSJ evo after selling my enduro. Bike rides great much happier with it than said enduro. Build kit on the Compok Nx drivetrain is ok  upgrade to gx when something wears out. Grip damper can be upgraded 2 easily and you can lsc adjustment to the float x. not sure what hubs internals that wheel set uses.

Other frame I considered was the new sb150 but I didn't see enough evolution from the pervious sb150 which I've already ridden for a while.

Cool. Thanks guys. Still torn between the SJ and Evo. Seems like most of the guys at the shop were riding SJs over the evo. Evo is closer to that Trek Rail I was riding, but of course had a motor to make up for it maybe not being as good of a climber compared to say a Fuel.

Biggest issue was the Rail felt small to me at a size Large. Comparing numbers on an S5 Evo I’d get about 35mm more reach and 14mm more stack. Wheelbase and chainstay length are longer too.

Stumpy evo all the way if you are looking to get a budget bike, hard to beat the support from the big S if anything breaks. Plus you have a bike that you can upgrade and still increase the value of it as well.

I would definitely go with the EVO if i would have a big vehicle. In my case it is different and at the moment all i can have is a folding bike. Consider buying one from this list https://bikecyclingreviews.com/best-folding-mountain-bike-comparison/, so if anyone has a recommendation for me, i would be very glad to listen them. I honestly don'y think it has influence on the riding qualities and just takes much less space.

The Evo is a fantastic bike and the alloy models truly are some serious bang-for-your-buck with the current sales.

If you're thinking about an alloy Evo, I'd consider the Canfield Lithium. The Lithium can be configured to 151 or 163mm travel depending on shock stroke. Maybe a bit longer than you want, but the CBF platform is an impressive pedaler. The bikes aren't light, but functionally, quite amazing.

OP:

Since you live in NWA, I thought I'd point out this bike to you. Dude has barely ridden it (I know him). Bought it when he worked at a shop, so he had a good deal on it originally:
