I'd say the exceptional situation is that these gates were taped differently that the ones preceding them.

These EWS/UCI officials should serve the riders and the fans before themselves. I don't want a dickhead to be treated any different than a nice guy, I want the fastest riders to win the race.

But yeah, as has been mentioned here, the coverage of this racing format isn't up to the demands of 2021 entertainment. Enduro seems best reported by a newspaper article two weeks later, like some old TdF or whatever...it just ain't got it like DH! I will continue to hope it gets better, because these riders rip.

I think it’s corny and weak to DQ the guys if you change the taping there afterwards. To der Komisars I say: be that boss babe you claim to be. Stick with it!
Must not be a parent 😂

Richie's teammate, Shawn Neer, didn't cut the gates tho, how's that fit in?

- only 2 riders did this out of all the Pro Men and Women. So I guess you could say that it was obvious not to go outside the flags.
Not trying to defend anybody (morally it was less than ideal to say the least), but not doing what's 'obvious' and in the gray area and getting away with it is how a lot of (motor)sports have been contested and won over the past. It's a standard MO, read the rules, find loopholes, take advantage of them and enjoy the advantage that it brings you for as long as it brings you.

The point of writing this is just to point out that the 'obvious' thing might not be so obvious. I have not read the rules, was not part of the briefing and the like, so it quite possibly isn't relevant to this situation.

The obvious thing to do isn’t that obvious when you are in the middle of a race run. Richie saw tire tracks inside the race tape. Normally that’s a good line (nobody memorizes or hits every single line in an enduro). From reports organizers were warned by the media that this could happen and chose to ignore those warnings till 2 highly competitive riders found themselves disqualified. Then they fixed their mistake. Meanwhile they tell the 2 riders they cheated and they are completely out of race. That to me is idiotic. Both groups screwed the pooch here and i think the ews/ucis statement should’ve reflected that even if they chose their decision for dsq was the only one they could make.

IMO both riders should’ve saw a one to two minute penalty. I think anyone who complained had rude won the title with a minute penalty (jack pretty much would have to dnf) probably would’ve complained had he won without incident. He will always be a polarizing figure and I doubt his reputation had anything to do with uci’s decision.
