I rarely see anyone without a dropper post these days. I really want one, and am saving for one. Is the KS ETen any good? I've heard many good things about it. Is there anyone else here with a dropper? I feel really weird!

Do you really feel like you need one when you are riding? Or do you just want one because they are popular? Droppers are going to be heavier, and a lot of them have some maintenance issues. If your riding style and the type of trails you ride demand a dropper, then get one. If the seat isn't constantly hitting your ass, you might not need one. I don't have one on my hardtail, but I do use one on my long-travel bike.

No I don't NEED one, but it would be better to not have to adjust seat height every time I need to. I could survive it... I think I'll stay dropper-free for a while lol

I rode for 20 years without a dropper post, but I never changed my seat height. If you are someone who lowers their post before the downs than get a dropper. I have had mine for about 2 years now and I use the crap out of it. It is heavier but it sure does add to the fun level on the ride. I use the Gravity Dropper Classic because it is bomb proof and requires zero maintenance. There are prettier ones out there but essentially what you are getting with them is another suspension fork to maintain.
Dropper posts are a fad,and built for the pampered MTBers of today.
The exact was said about suspension when it first showed up. What a fad that has turned out to be.

This. So much this.

TrailHead, I sold my last two Command Posts on CL for $120 each. They were both brand new. So keep a close eye on CL for deals like these if money is tight.

Good point. He needed to rephrase it to this: "In short, for the absolute vast majority, your life will change forever (and for the better) after a dropper." His original statement, which was originally true, became untrue as soon you posted your disdain; the 100% rule suddenly no longer applied.

Seriously, there are very few who have used a dropper post and said "meh, it's alright." The response to the concept has been so overwhelmingly positive, I would not be surprised to see it migrate into other riding disciplines over the next few years -- CX bikes with adjustable seatposts anyone?

Hey "BigBoi", I won't change my picture. I really like it, it makes me laugh, and makes others angry! That is THE POINT!! I wanted to see if anyone would bring it up. And you did, thanks! Now I think I will get a dropper. What first? Bike repair stand, or dropper? LolGrinning

I'm about to buy my 3rd post...if you do get one some tips....

Buy the most reliable on you can get. Most seem to survive about 3-12 months and many aren't user serviceable.
They often develop problems such as side to side play and rise and lower failures.
They are a convenience, not a tool, it depends on your terrain as to how much convenience they'll give you,
Don't buy a 100mm dropper it's not really enough for most people, buy a 150mm if you want to be slammed or are tall, 125mm is OK for most but not always perfect.

I would definitely suggest the Specialized Command if you do get one. Excellent price point, and they work fantastic. A lot of great droppers out there have maintenance issues.

A guy just can;t catch a break around here huh Trailhead. Being 6'7", I always wanted a RASE post with ten inches of travel as the difference between my trail and DH seat heights is eleven inches.

You are right. I haven't ridden my DH rig since September which would explain my frustration. I'm planning to get out tomorrow. I hope to return with a more positive outlook on life......and your face.
