Fox 34 or 36 160mm fork on my Stumpy EVO???

So I just saw that one of the online bike shops is having a crazy sale on their 26 inch fox forks and I think I have to take advantage of the rising popularity of the 650 forks lol. Which should I get for my Specialized stumpy evo comp 26? The fork on there now is a pretty uninspiring RS revelation 150mm with a 20mm axle and the rear travel is a fox float 150mm with autosag. I want to improve the DH capabilities of the bike overall but I have heard some not so good things about the Talas vs the CTD. Any info would be much appreciated guys.

2014 Fox 34 Float CTD adjust for $600 (15mm axle but I believe I could get an adapter for my front hub?)

or

2014 Fox 36 Talas RC2 Fit for $650 (20mm axle so it would be instantly compatible with my hub)

Put Pikes on it. 36's would be too much in my opinion, too stiff and negates that the bike is essentially a well geo'ed trail bike. 34's are flexy, tried em, basically slightly stiffer Revelations. I have just put Pikes on my 26" Stumpy Evo (2013) and its amazing. I live in the alps and happily go on all day epics to a couple of park laps on my Stumpy. Sick bike now, just needs stiffer forks with better small bump sensitivity, and thats the Pikes all day long. They feel like a mini DH fork, unbelievable.

But the pikes are at least 1000 bucks for a good one. This fox 36 is 650 on clearance, I would very much like a new fork and price seems very doable to me, 1000 for me is pushing it because at that point its almost more worth it to me to put that in the bank, sell my bike and then get another 2 g's for a new bike alltogether (which will most likely have a pike on it lol).

So Topper, if it was between keeping my current fork and saving up for a new ride or getting the 36 and riding it for another couple years what do you think I should do?

The Pike is obviously first choice, but between the two of those the 34 is a much better bet. It will be miles stiffer than your revelation. The 36 is heavy and overkill.

Go with the 36. the dampening is way better ie the L/H speed compresssion vs the CTD

is it really that much overkill you think? I mean the revelation on there right now is 35mm stantions and has 150mm of travel, this would only be 10mm more and 1mm more in stantion width...

Between the Revelation you have on there now, and the 2014 34 CTD, I'd be hard pressed to recommend one over the other. And yes, the 36 feels like it would be overkill. Now, if it was the 2015 34 we were talking about (i.e. the recently updated and retuned version), it would be another story altogether (but then it would be another price altogether as well, of course).

Get a Pike and don't look back. It will rock your boat on that Stumpy Evo. Sell the Revelation for a couple of hundred and call it a day.

Thanks, I keep hearing how good the pikes are these days anyways. I had one back in the day and loved it actually so I'm sure they are twice as good now. I think I might actually just take that 1000 that I would spend on the pike and just put it towards a new ride which has a pike on it already!! Spartan Carbon it is

yeah mate, good plan. Just make sure to get some Pike's in your life. The rest are good but just not good enough yet.

i had a 34 float from 2013 and it sucked, now i have the 2014 one and it much better, a safe bet

I got a brand new pike dpa for 850 shipped..

check pinkbike buy and sell..there is a shop selling em way cheap have to message them for prices

The 36 RC2 cartridge is way better than a CTD any day of the week and will last longer.

Thanks for the heads up! I think I'm just gonna put that money towards a new Devinci Spartan XP which happens to come with a pike on the front! lol

I am also thinking of upgrading my 2014 stumpy evo 26" to a pike (currently running the 150mm Revelation).

Would you guys suggest 150mm or 160mm? I'm an aggressive rider with a dh/moto background.

So I caved and am staying with my Stumpy instead of getting a new bike. I just ordered a Brand New Pike from CRC and I was wondering if the evo comp from wheel was able to get adapters to change it from 20mm to a 15mm?? Does anyone know this?
