Lowering travel on a FOX 40/49er

Has anybody successfully lowered the travel on this model of fork to be able to put it on a a bike other than a DH'er? I wanted to do this and get it to about 170mm travel. I have been entertaining just putting the MRP Bartlett on, but my original plan was for the 40/49'er. Just looking for info, not the usual questioning of why, as I just want a dual crown on my build.

I believe the lowest the 40 can be lowered to is 190 which is about on par with a 180 single crown. That said I'd prefer a new 38 or Zeb.

I don't condone this, but a little trick that's been picked up over the years. This works on current Fox 40/49. When I showed the local Fox tech this he fell off his chair lol

Pump to 110psi
compress the fork roughly 3cm
release air pressure to 80PSI

Now you have fork that never reaches equalization ports and tops out on air.

Above is for 180mm setting, lower the main pressure more and it will go slightly lower but ride like shit.

It may take a few goes to get it right and I take no resonsibility for your shit breaking but it's good for a laugh.

I had actually looked at adding 40-50mm of bumpers on the shaft of the air side and then placing the tubes higher in the crown as this would allow the bottoming to not allow metal to metal or seal to bottom of crown, but thought that the tubes would be too high above the upper crown and also a expensive experiment to try, lol. This would also allow the air chambers to be mostly the same.

The above post is actually what I was gonna do on the MRP Bartlett also to be able to go reduce to 170-160mm depending on what final build frame I wanted to use.

That's not going to work, as the positive/negative transfer port will not be able to balance.

Local machine shop and get them to shorten the air shaft.
