Hello guys,

I am currently writing my bachelor thesis on the power meter market (i study marketing management) - and I would also like to cover the mtb power meter scene too. I would be super grateful if I could get some unbiased input.

So, would you buy a power meter for your mtb?

If, yes why?
If, maybe why?
If, no why?

Generally, I'm interested in all kinds of feedback - but mainly in things like preferred material, price, weight, features, etc and in what discipline would you consider(are) using power meters?

Thanks a lot in advance! There isn't a whole lot of articles on this topic, so every input counts!

I have one- I got it to train with for enduro racing. I remove it off the bike for racing (it's heavy and fragile) and during the off-season (don't want to know how fat/weak I am haha).

Features I'd like:
-good battery life
-consistent measurement/accuracy
-compatibility with bb/chainrings etc.
-wireless and easy to hook up to garmin
-waterproof
-cheaper is better
-durable (I smashed one and had to get it warrantied)
-would love to see one bluetooth so it can work on phone apps, none available that I know of.

Don't care about:
-weight (it's for training on MTB, roadies might care if they are looking at output during a race)
-looks

It's a power meter- it only sends power to the head unit, I believe all the other calcs/features are done inside the garmin/head unit.

I live in Spearfish SD where Quarq is based, if you want to holler at any of them let me know and I can get some emails if it helps.

Yes. I have one on all of my bikes.

It helps me for pacing in XC races, tracking training load, and charting progress. I don't usually look at power data during MTB rides though.

And Dave, all the Stages stuff is bluetooth.

No. I'm not that serious about my MTB prowess; I just do it as a fun way to train for MX. I don't care how much power I'm putting out.
