I had quite high expectations of this stem before buying it. It looks great and the attention to detail in the machining is superb. However, it really is ahassle to attach to the bike and to the handlebars due to its two piece design. This would not be a problem if you never need to remove the stem, although packaging the bike for going on holiday in a bike bag highlights that a normal stem is infinitely easier to remove from the bike.
The other downside to this stem is that it seems to twist on the steerer far too easily. Having tightened it to the suggested torque initially, I have since had to tighten it a substantial amount more and it still appears to twist given enough force (more so than the thomson stem I run on my other bike)
On the plus side, it is nice and light. Overall though, I would not buy this product again. Instead I would stick to thomson if I was ever to be in the market for a stem again.
ill keep this short and sweet. i loved this stem but it creaked horribly. after replacing it with a different stem i heard from a friend that his did the same thing and he ended up pinching a piece of tube between the two halves. problem solved. just had to be crafty i guess.

Post a reply to: 31.8 50mm stem thats super rugged.
I have been using this stem in a 40mm length on my 2018 transition Scout for the entire 2018 season. It is very stiff and light, but takes a little more time to install and remove handle bars. In addition I had to rough up the anodizing and use carbon grip gel to to keep my bars from slipping with the recommended torque on the bolts. I have to admit I really like the way it looks and the slightly longer adjustment time is ok with me.

I have recently purchased one of these stems to go with my Renthal fatbar lites . Using this stem for trail riding and enduro racing .
I race downhill so also thrash my trail bike and hardware . I run Renthal on all my bikes and absolutely love it . Never had a problem with it .

Been rocking this stem for three years now and i still have nothing bad to say about it. It is a nicely engineered two piece design with all excess material removed to bring it's weight down to 150grams with the bolts. As stiff as some other brands big blocky stems that weight 250g. It is very easy to remove and put back since you don't have to disassemble it to remove from the fork steerer. The price is a bit steep but you get the proven Renthal quality and a component that gonna follow you on more than one bike build. By the way, Thompson stems are highly overrated...
