I've mouthed off here on the forums and in the video comments about how technical climbing should be an official sport. Back before I knew what downhill was, I used to love to climb. My first instinct, back in '89or so, was to clean that climb. At the time it was the stone stair trails up out of the Arroyo Seco in Pasadena. While it's quite a bit ahead of what I would probably tape off for an official event, Jeff Lynosky just pulled off what must be the first ever assent of the Horse Thief Bench, which is a descent that most people walk down.

Trials and xc are both uci sports. How much more climbing do we need?

Not the first, but the only uninterrupted Horsethief Bench climb. Very impressive!

I just watched the latest episode of Follow Cam Fridays from Nate Hills on his YouTube channel. (New subscriber since his Inside Line Podcast.)

And his latest guest rider is a quality tech climber. So this guy is nailing sweet tech climbs in the middle of a long ride, which gave me another idea... Instead of just having technical climbing as a stand alone competition, why not incorporate a tech climb or two into the Enduro format? Perhaps during a (Forgetting the name of the bits between the stages.) where riders are allowed to walk if they have time, mark off a tech climb that the riders must complete without dabbing. Give them as many tries as they want and give a time penalty for each failure up to some set maximum.
