Hey guys, I need some help with fitment. I’m purchasing a 2022 Tallboy XO1 large model and the LBS building the bike told me the crank arm length for my bike is only 170mm. I thought the large frame bikes came with 175mm. 170mm crank arms feel small to me, my girlfriends MTB has 170mm and I feel like I’m on child size cranks.
I currently ride a 2018 Chameleon with 175 crank arms and am wondering if the 170mm cranks will feel to short. I’ve always ridden 175mm cranks for BMX and MTB’ing. I have torn both ACL’s (got 1 fixed) and tore my patellar tendon a few years back (fixed now) and need some advice if this is going to affect my riding in any way good or bad. I’m hoping you guys have some good feed back as now I’m a little concerned with the arm length. What came stock on your large Tallboy, and how do you like them? Please help me out. Thanks everyone!

There is a school of thought that shorter cranks spin faster and increase cadence, which may actually be helpful if you have dodgy knees.
My own experience, I swapped from 175mm to 170mm when I got a long/low/slack frame, mostly because random pedal strikes. 5mm might not seem much, but it's the difference between OTB and a glancing blow at speed. Some would say it's a technique thing, but it's MTB, shit happens. I have 175mm on a few other bikes and 172.5 on a road bike and I can't tell the difference any more. Main bike I ride is 170mm.
If it really bugs you after a bunch of rides, change the cranks.
