Next Level Trail Sabotage

Trail sabotage or attempted murder? A legitimate question, going by what we can see in this picture shared by Twelve50 Bikes. It's not the first time we've seen this kind of thing, but the stakes are certainly higher this time around! (all the puns, all the puns).

Sadly enough, it also won't be the last time some ill-mannered individual decides to take matters into his or her own hands. Just something to keep in mind as you head for the trails - keep a look out for traps, and also remember to be safe and courteous around other trail users, so as to minimize conflicts in the first place.

Post excerpt: A friend of ours posted this photo of trail sabotage on one of the runs down the Old Pale. Whilst these trails are unofficial, the Forestry have been tolerant of them, so long as no more digging takes place. The FC also built a gate at the bottom to slow riders before they join a busy track and avoid conflict with other users.
The vast majority of walkers, horse riders co-exist happily and share the forest without problems. However, it seems somebody has an axe to grind and has taken matters into their own hands. Obviously the consequences of riding into this don't really bear thinking about.
If you use the Forest and these trails in particular, please keep your eyes open and take care out there, especially if night riding.
Stay safe y'all.

Experienced this here in Ireland recently, a well used EWS stage had wire mesh pulled up on a small bridge and sent me OTB. Cracked a rib and fairly banged up as a result.
People who do these things are clearly in a bad state of mind. Seems to me that the more exposure sabotage gets the more it happens. Or maybe it's just being reported more as of late. Sick individuals nonetheless.

Why not bring the law into this? Or is the law usually on the pedestrians' side, and it could be a risk to have them involved? If the forest Rangers don't mind and approve of the trails the law can't really tell you guys to not come there right? Try putting up a few cameras in a few spots.

Oh, there's no obstacle to bringing the Law into this, provided the laws are similar to the US:. Mantrapping is illegal, even on your own property.

this is the most disheartening part of the article
"Judge Slayton seemed to side with Protiva on the question of whether motorcyclists could legally use the Challenger Trail ringing the base of the San Francisco Peaks. But he said Protiva also could have injured horse riders or hikers with the cables in an attempt to keep out the motorcyclists.

"I think you recognized the danger you posed, even to those folks that shouldn't have been riding a motorcycle but were," Slayton said."

WTF? he "could have injured horse riders or hikers"?? he DID injure a moto rider. who cares what they're riding/doing, that guy could have killed someone but the judge seems indifferent.

Last I checked, owls don't nest on trails.

Probably not as bad as the ol'fashion - throw a big log across the landing of a blind drop or jump. And you somehow think it is some hardcore enviromental dude - but the irony comes when you find out it was actually another mountain biker - who has his own image of what mtb is & should be- ( both wheels on the ground).

thats absolutely ridiculous. He just lies straight up to a judge and cries and promises he's never going to do it again and just does it again and again and again. And the judge just keeps on believing the shit spewing out of his mouth. The only way he's gonna stop is if he's in jail or dead.

"A 64 year old Canadian woman has been arrested for laying booby traps on a MTB trail. She’s now staring down the barrel of criminal charges after reportedly blocking several trails with large logs and boulders on trails in the North Shore area of Vancouver.

Riders first encountered these unwanted obstacles back in August last year. When the hazards continued to appear along the designated public MTB trails, two regular users took it upon themselves to set a trap of their own.

The poacher-turned-gamekeepers rigged the trails with discreet security cameras to find out who had ben setting up the obstructions. The riders passed the footage on the the authorities when they noticed that somebody was sneaking into the forest at night and placing longs and boulders along the Lower Skull and Quarry trails."
