So a customer came in to pick up a rockshox spring today and asked what the first number was before the spring weight. It was 88 and just before the 450lb spring weight. I had never really given it much though. What does the 88 mean?

Are you seeing a misprinted "# "sign? 'Cause that means pounds. Just in case that's helpful.

Nope, another one had a 73 on it. Got more info after, apparently it's NM per MM

450 lbs/in = 79 N/mm

The mystery thickens.

Just checked a spring on a web shop, it's written "61(350) x 57.5-65MM", and this works since 61 N/mm equals 350 lbs/in.
