Aaron Gwin is in Snowshoe, West Virginia, for the final double-header round of the 2021 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Downhill, but he is not racing. Aaron sustained a back injury a few weeks ago and does not feel up to the speed or intensity (pun : ) for a World Cup-level performance. Jack Rice checks in with the man himself in this audio interview to get the scoop.

They really should have some sort of fill-in program like they do in MX/SX. Cole Suetos petitioned UCI to race Snowshoe & was denied. He rides with Gwin, for Intense & is probably the fastest rider not in the field this week. He was jeven ust in the area for pump-track nationals like last weekend.
Why can't he take Gwin's spot, at least to try & qualify?

Gwin has been plagued by injuries that he’s downplayed for several years consecutively. He hasn’t been able to charge and as a result, he hasn’t been a major player recently. People have a short memory. He Dominated for several years only losing a race here and there. if he could get healthy, he could contend again for a few years. I do think his experimenting with smaller and less established sponsors every year hasn’t helped.

I'm really happy that he made sure to be there with the team to BE PRESENT FOR THE FANS. It cannot be overstated how valuable it is for the US fan base to have him at the track, in the pits and available to the public again.
Good on you Gwinner. The US fan base will remember you making the trip & joining them in the celebration of DH World's return to US soil.

smart move, nothing to gain from racing these two at if you're not 100%. hope he can bounce back big time in 2022!
